NeXclad True

Ludowici NeXclad True is a patented small module terra-cotta wall cladding designed to install with a flush surface texture. It combines the clay tile and customization options of the NeXclad line with the look of a flush panel.

NeXclad True is available smooth or weathered, in a wide range of colors, and carries a 75-year material warranty.

The module is close to square, unlike the 14-inch and 16-inch NeXclad tiles. NeXclad True is currently offered in one size, a 12 inch by 8 inch module, and in a smooth surface texture.

NeXclad True is rated Class A for fire. Results reported for the tile and wall assembly:

The air leakage, water penetration and dynamic water results are included for NeXclad True and are not part of the NeXclad 14 and NeXclad 16 listings.

The installation drawing shows two layers behind the tile: the tile itself, and a drainage plane that also serves as the air and moisture barrier. Nailable exterior grade sheathing sits behind these. A flush terra-cotta wall cladding with this module has no exposed rail or clip detail on its face.

NeXclad True tiles, a small-module format, are mechanically anchored to a structural sheathing board, with mechanical fasteners attaching the tiles directly and no additional mounting system. The cladding is placed outside the waterproofing membrane and Ludowici's drainage mat in both systems. Two wall systems are supported:

• Stud walls with structural insulated sheathing (SIS) boards: continuous exterior rigid insulation, with anchors into a structural facer board bonded to the insulation; wood or steel framing
• Stud walls with structural sheathing: wood or steel studs with batt insulation between them and a solid nailable or screwable sheathing layer, with no continuous exterior insulation; also described for masonry or concrete structures

CAD and Revit models and PDF details are provided for both systems.

Each wall system has a set of 17 numbered details, with PDF, DWG and Revit files and a full prototypical details PDF. The structural insulated sheathing set shows these external corners:

• Two-piece external corner tile with rigid insulation
• Re-entrant metal trim
• Greater arrow corner trim
• Knife corner trim
• Flush shiplap tile
• V corner tile

The conventional set shows an external corner panel, re-entrant, greater arrow, lesser arrow and knife corners, an L corner metal trim, flush shiplap and a V corner tile. Both sets also include internal corner, wall termination, base of wall, sill, jamb, head and coping details.

Textures are Smooth, the only one currently offered, with Weathered and Custom listed.

NeXclad True comes in a single through-body color, various glaze colors and a variety of glaze application techniques, plus custom colors.

Gloss glazes: Clay Red, Brookville Green, Midnight Black, Mediterranean Blue and Royal Persian.

Matte glazes: Matte White, Barcelona Buff, Desert Sand, Santiago Rose, Slate Red, Process Flash, Summer Rose, Burgundy, Bright Green, Vintage Green, Forest Green, Norman Black, Briar Brown, Aged Oak, Brunswick Black, Ebony, Ash Gray and Antiqued Pewter; also Fireflash, Vechio, Anziani, Terra Cotta, Dark Terra Cotta, Villagio, Tuscany, Dark Tuscany, Provence, Sienna, Western Cedar, Earth Gray, Aged Cedar, Ebony Mist, Vermont Gray Black, Slate Gray, Montpelier Green, Mottled Green Purple, Antiqued Slate Gray, Antiqued Brunswick Black and Strata Gray.

Weathered glazes: Sunset Red, Beach Brown, Lava Black, Plumstone, Sunset Red with Ebony Mist, White Cedar and Golden Red Cedar.
