Overview
Nucor Building Systems
Nucor Building Systems is a manufacturer of custom-engineered metal building systems and is part of Nucor Corporation. The company has full-service plants in four states: Indiana, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. It states that it has more than 30 years of experience and a network of Authorized Builders across North America. Its website gives the network size as over 1,200 on one page and over 1,400 on another.
Each building is custom designed in Tekla BIM 3D software, which produces a digital prototype that coordinates the framing with electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. Nucor Building Systems draws on Nucor’s steel production and building products supply, and offers single-source solutions.
The product range consists of metal building framing systems, roof panel systems, steel wall panels, insulated metal panels, prismatic skylights for daylighting, mezzanines and building accessories. Insulated metal panels are also supplied by a sister company, Metl-Span. R-Boost is a roof insulation system in the range.
The roof panel systems consist of the following.
- Nucor CFR Standing Seam, a raised-seam roof designed to float and accommodate thermal expansion and contraction, available with Vise Lock and Vise Lock 360 seaming profiles.
- Loc Seam Vertical Rib Standing Seam, a concealed-clip vertical rib panel that is mechanically seamed and suited to buildings with hips and valleys, available with Loc Seam 90 and Loc Seam 360 profiles.
- R-Panel, a panel typically applied over fiberglass batt or rigid board insulation.
- Translucent roof panels, available in CFR and R-Panel profiles, insulated or non-insulated.
The R-Panel roof profile, the product covered in the library, is 36 inches wide with ribs spaced 12 inches apart. It is offered in Galvalume, SP and PVDF finishes. The translucent R-Panel option has a standard length of 10 feet 8 inches. A wall version of the profile is the Reverse R-Panel.
Nucor Building Systems serves industrial manufacturing, commercial and retail, agricultural, aviation and hangar, athletic and recreational, warehouse and logistics, religious, restaurant, brewery and winery, community and data center buildings.
Relevant manufacturer history
Nucor Building Systems was founded in 1987 as a single location in Waterloo, Indiana. Nucor's own timeline gives the same year for the start of the business, a plant focused on custom-engineered metal buildings.
The company has since grown to full-service plants in Indiana, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. Growth has come through greenfield start-ups and acquisitions. It is part of Nucor Corporation, whose integrated steel production and building products supply is the basis of the company's single-source offering.
Over time the range widened from metal building framing to roof panel systems, steel wall panels, insulated metal panels, prismatic skylights, mezzanines and accessories. The company's design process moved to Tekla BIM 3D software, with each building produced as a digital prototype. A 2022 R-Panel roof specification sheet is among the technical documents the company publishes for its roof panels.
