Presidential Starter

Presidential Starter is a CertainTeed starter shingle sold under the data sheet title Presidential Shake Starter Shingles. It is made for use as a double-layer starter course beneath Presidential and Presidential TL shingles only.

Two layers are applied as shown on the wrap. Availability depends on sales region. The shingle is made for resistance to blow-off. Separate application sheets may also be obtained from CertainTeed.

Presidential Starter has a fiber glass mat base. Ceramic coated mineral granules are embedded in refined, water-resistant asphalt.

• Coverage per bundle: 36.67 linear feet, based on two-layer application.

On slopes of 2 inches to 4 inches per foot, Presidential Starter needs additional underlayment. Where eave icing can back water up, CertainTeed WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment, or its equivalent, is applied to the deck following the instructions supplied with that product and on the shingle package.

Installation instructions are supplied on each bundle of starter shingles and on the field shingles. Application is made in line with local building code requirements and good roofing practice. Presidential Starter is the starter named for the residential shingle roofing Presidential line.

Presidential Starter carries a limited warranty against manufacturing defects concurrent with the warranty of the field shingle with which it is installed. The data sheet is dated 01/21.
