Overview

DaVinci Roofscapes

DaVinci Roofscapes makes composite roofing tiles that reproduce the profiles of natural slate and cedar shake. The tiles are made from polymer. They are manufactured in Lenexa, Kansas. The company’s first product was a multi-width polymer slate profile.

The tile material is formulated with virgin resins, UV and thermal stabilizers and a fire retardant. Published ratings for the slate and shake lines include Class A fire, Class 4 impact and a 110 mph wind rating.

The Technical Library holds seven DaVinci Roofscapes residential roofing products, in a slate group and a shake group.

The slate products are Inspire Slate, Province Slate, Single-Width Slate and Multi-Width Slate. Single-Width Slate is a slate profile cut at one width, while Multi-Width Slate is supplied in a range of tile widths. Inspire Slate and Province Slate are named slate profiles within the range.

The shake products are Select Shake, Single-Width Shake and Multi-Width Shake. These reproduce the look of split cedar shakes. As with the slate lines, the Single-Width Shake is offered at one width and the Multi-Width Shake in several widths.

DaVinci tiles are supplied pre-bundled in varying widths. Installation is described as needing no special tools or training. The company publishes product guides, brochures and installation documents for each line.

DaVinci Roofscapes serves the residential roofing market. Its products are specified for new construction and for re-roofing of homes that originally had natural slate or cedar shake roofs, and project profiles on its website include re-roofs of historic and architect-designed houses.

The company’s website lists roofing products under the heading of composite slate and composite shake, and distinguishes the lines by profile, width, thickness and color range. Each product record in the library carries the dimensions and finish information for that specific profile, together with the manufacturer files for the line.

The DaVinci Roofscapes website is davinciroofscapes.com, and the company markets in the United States. In 2009, the year of its tenth anniversary, it became a corporate sponsor of a charitable home-building program.

The company reports a residential brochure covering the slate and shake lines. The brochure presents the tile profiles side by side and shows the available color blends for each line. The slate lines and the shake lines are sold as separate product families with their own tile dimensions.

Relevant manufacturer history

DaVinci's synthetic slate and shake roofing dates to 1999. The first product was a multi-width polymer slate profile. A shake product line followed the slate line, and the range now includes Select Shake, Single-Width Shake and Multi-Width Shake alongside the slate profiles.

In 2009 the company marked ten years of operation. In that year it became a corporate sponsor of a charitable home-building program, and Ray Rosewall served as its president and chief executive officer.

Manufacturing of the tiles is carried out in Lenexa, Kansas. The company's published project profiles describe re-roofing work in which DaVinci slate and shake tiles replaced original natural cedar shake and slate roofs on historic and architect-designed buildings, including a Frank Lloyd Wright home.

Later additions to the slate range include the Inspire Slate and Province Slate profiles listed in the library.
