Anodizing process and surface
Anodizing enhances the natural oxidation of aluminum using electricity and chemicals, which bonds a hard surface to the metal. The surface is hard and wear-resistant, and natural color variation from panel to panel is part of the finish.
Finishes
Finishes are Black, Bordeaux Anodized, Bronze, Champagne, Clear and Copper. Anodizing brings out natural variation in the aluminum, so color variation can be expected.
Copper Anodized
Copper Anodized is a proprietary finish that replicates the appearance of copper on anodized aluminum panels. Its nominal system depth is 1 1/2 inches, against 1 1/4 inches for the other anodized finishes. Thickness is 0.080 inch standard with other gauges available, joints are 1/2 inch horizontal and 5/8 inch vertical, weight is less than 2 pounds per square foot and the finish warranty is 5 years standard with 10 years available.
Copper Anodized finish
Copper Anodized gives aluminum a copper-colored metallic appearance through anodizing. Subtle panel-to-panel variation is part of its appearance. A separate design guide is published for the finish.
Size parameters
Anodized aluminum shares size limits with painted aluminum, weathering steel and stainless steel. For 0.080 inch 3003-H14 or 5005-AQ aluminum, the corner points are 24 by 120, 60 by 30, 120 by 24 and 48 by 48 inches, with a maximum depth of 4 inches. For 0.125 inch aluminum the points are 36 by 120 and 120 by 48 inches. For anodized panels set vertically at 48 inches or taller, wind clips are needed at 24 inches on center maximum.
Standard details
The standard details dated May 14, 2024 draw sills, heads, jambs, copings and corners, each built over a horizontal Z-girt with insulation, a commercial weather barrier, sheathing and metal studs.
Specifications and warranty
The guide specification is Section 074213-24, Aluminum Metal Plate Wall Panels, with architectural details issued as a ZIP file. A 2 year warranty on all materials is published for the product, alongside the finish warranty of 5 years standard and 10 years available.
