Overview

Swisspearl Vintago is a naturally dried fiber cement panel with a sanded, slightly rough surface. It is in the Swisspearl Largo range and is sold in the US as a commercial rainscreen panel. Vintago belongs to the fiber cement rainscreen panels that share a sheet with Avera and Reflex.

The Vintago sheet is headed AC 90, ASTM 1185 and EN 12467.

Surface and finish

The surface is polished with a coarse abrasive grit. This brings the interior and original character of the fiber cement board to the surface. The result is fine abraded lines and subtle textural variation across the panel. The base is through-colored and the texture is rough, with a translucent, matte optic. A transparent high-resistance coating is supplied as the standard finish. It adds scratch and weather resistance and protection against heavy contamination and graffiti.

Largo and Modula formats

In the Largo format, Vintago is listed as a rectangle at 2510 × 1250 mm and 3050 × 1250 mm, both 8 mm thick, and it is also available for interior use. In the Modula format it is a single-lapped rectangle at 1494 × 300 mm and 2494 × 300 mm, also 8 mm thick. Individual cuts and free-form shapes are offered.

The fixing methods listed for the Largo format of Vintago are level laying, inverted cover, visible fastening with rivets or screws, and invisible fastening with Sigma 8 Pro or gluing. The Vintago product page links to rear-ventilated façade systems, visible fasteners and invisible fasteners.

Mechanical properties

The ambient bending modulus of elasticity is 12.0 GPa. Vintago records a 3669 psi wet average flexural strength and a 2610 psi minimum. Vintago is placed in Type A, class IV of ASTM 1186.

Fire and impact performance

  • EN 13501-1 class for Vintago: A2-s1, d0.

Thermal, moisture and color data

Hygrothermal values for Vintago start with a water absorption of 14.6 percent. Moisture movement (30/90 percent RH, ASTM 1186) is 0.009 in/ft. Frost resistance is 100 cycles. The board tolerates -40 to +80 °C air temperature. Conductivity is 0.5 W/mK and expansion is 0.01 mm/m °C.

Vapor transmission tests give a Z-value of 5.21 GPa m² s/kg, Sd of 1.01 m and a μ factor of 651. Production-line color variation is a ΔE below 2.0. UV color resistance is a ΔE below 5.0 at 3000 and 5000 hours. The environmental footprint for stages A1 to C4 is 16.7 kg CO₂-eq total. The facility holds ISO 9001 certification.

Material composition

The fiber cement in Vintago is made from cement, cellulose, water, synthetic fibers and air, with pigments added for color. Each Vintago board is rolled, pressed, cut, cured and colored under continuous quality control. Vintago is produced at one of nine Swisspearl facilities in Europe, which have been asbestos-free for more than two decades. The materials and chemicals in Vintago comply with REACH. The Largo format of Vintago falls under the Cradle to Cradle Certified Full Scope certification at the Bronze level, version 4.1.
