Relevant manufacturer history
Atlas opened in 1982 with a single plant in Meridian, Mississippi, making asphalt shingles and roll roofing. It then expanded with facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 1994 it bought five plants from the roofing business of Georgia-Pacific, including the Daingerfield, Texas, facility.
The polyiso line began with ACFOAM-III insulation with coated glass facers in 1996, and ACUltra Technology, a CFC- and HCFC-free polyiso, followed in 1998. The Gemini drainage products date from 1998, with drain sets in 2004 and the Gemini Miter in 2007. In 2007 WebTech became the world's largest maker of coated glass facers for building materials.
On the shingle side, HP high-performance oversized shingles were introduced in 2010, shingles with Scotchgard Protector in 2011, Briarwood Pro designer shingles in 2016, and Core4 enhanced polymer technology in 2019. Atlas marked its 40th anniversary in 2022 with a new brand identity.
