Overview
Pinnacle Sun is an architectural asphalt shingle line from Atlas Roofing that uses solar-reflective color options. It is made for steep-slope roofs in the United States and uses the HP42 wide format.
Pinnacle Sun is the cool-color line of the Pinnacle family. Its colors carry the 2.0 designation and Cool Roof Rating Council initial SRI values, and it is the only Pinnacle line whose data sheet includes ASTM E1980 solar reflectance.
Cooling and smog technology
The shingle uses 3M cooling technology with 3M reflective cooling granules. Atlas cites the Cool Roof Rating Council figure that a cool roof can save up to 15% of total cooling costs. The Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) values on the color chart are initial values from the Cool Roof Rating Council. Three-year rated values may differ.
Pinnacle Sun also uses 3M Smog-Reducing Granules, which have a patented photocatalytic coating that converts harmful gases into washable plant-nutrient nitrates. 3M Scotchgard Protector is on the shingle to resist black streaks and stains caused by algae.
In the cool-color shingle the Scotchgard Protector granules contain copper under a 3M porous ceramic coating. Copper ions are released slowly.
