Overview
CertainTeed Intake Vent, sold as a filtered edge vent, is a low-edge air intake for shingle roofs. It is installed along the lower roof edge over a slot cut in the deck, with shingles applied beyond the extent of the vent. It admits outside air to the attic ventilation path, and it is used where a roof has little or no overhang for conventional soffit intake.
Ventilation and pitch data
Each linear foot of vent has 9 square inches of net free area. The minimum roof pitch is 3/12, with no maximum. Louver openings are no wider than 1/4 inch and are sized to minimize insect infiltration and windblown debris.

Construction
The vent is molded from polypropylene resin that passes the ASTM G155 advanced weathering test with less than 10% variance. It is available in black.
- Internal baffles, a drainage system and a weather filter, which give three levels of weather protection.
- Integrated end plugs on both ends of the vent.
- A parallel profile that extends beyond the air venting slot cut into the deck to preserve the net free area.
- A curved downslope that blends into the original roof deck so that shingles can be applied beyond the vent.
- A drainage method that lets splashing water leave the interior of the vent without leaking to the roof assembly.
- At least 10 pre-formed nail bosses for positioning the vent before shingling.
- Integral ribbing that maintains the vent structure and profile during shingling.
Installation features
Intake Vent is a shingle-over vent set at the roof edge for homes with limited or no roof overhang. It can replace or add to soffit or under-eave vents. It works with CertainTeed Ridge Vent products as an intake and exhaust pair.
- Tabs on the underside position the vent over the cut slot.
- Pre-printed slot guides are marked for truss or ridge pole construction.
- Pre-drilled nail holes mark the nailing points.
Approvals and warranty
The vent carries an approval report with the Texas Department of Insurance. Shingles can be fastened over it with a nail gun set to 100 PSI without breakage, and it can be installed in various climate zones across the US and Canada.
It is covered by a Lifetime Limited Warranty and 5-Year SureStart Protection.
Use on the roof
Intake Vent is paired with ridge exhaust vents in the same CertainTeed range. It is covered by the field courses of asphalt shingle roofing beyond the vent slot.
