Presidential Shake TL

Presidential Shake TL is a CertainTeed residential shingle roofing product with sculpted rustic edges, constructed from three laminated layers. The TL designation marks the three-layer build within the Presidential Shake line.

The shingle is designed to resist blow-off in winds up to 110 mph with normal installation and up to 130 mph with special installation. An algae-resistant form, Presidential Shake TL AR, helps protect against staining or discoloration caused by algae (gloeocapsa magma).

Presidential Shake TL shingles have a fiber glass mat base with ceramic-coated mineral granules embedded in refined, water-resistant asphalt. The laminated pieces are bonded with an asphaltic cement and the shingles have a self-sealing adhesive applied. Colors of Presidential Shake TL vary by region.

Slopes of 4 inches per foot and greater are recommended for optimum appearance. Low-slope applications from 2:12 to less than 4:12 require WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment, or an equivalent meeting ASTM D1970, over the entire deck surface.

In areas where icing along the eaves can cause water to back up, WinterGuard or an equivalent is applied on all slopes. Above 21 inches per foot, Presidential Shake TL is nailed with nine nails and roofing cement spots under each tab.

The two-layered starter course of Presidential Shake TL is made with Presidential Starter or an approved alternative starter system. Cedar Crest, or the enhanced high profile accessory shingle Mountain Ridge, in a like color caps the hips and ridges.

Presidential Shake TL carries a lifetime or 50-year transferable limited warranty, depending on ownership and building type, against manufacturing defects for the original owner, plus 10 years of SureStart Protection. Presidential Shake TL AR shingles carry a 30-year algae resistance warranty when installed with the CertainTeed Hip and Ridge accessories named above.

The three-layer build uses Tri-Laminate technology, with a fiber glass base, a protective outer layer and color blending technology. An interlocking system holds the shingles in place in high winds, and self-sealing adhesive strips bond each course.
