Overview
CertainTeed Ridge Vent is a continuous exhaust vent for the roof ridge. An external wind baffle deflects wind and weather over the vent and creates low pressure above it, which pulls air out of the attic. Cap shingles are mounted over the top of the vent.
The 12 inch filtered version is the configuration described here. It belongs to CertainTeed's residential roof ventilation range.
Construction
The vent is molded from polypropylene resin that passes the ASTM G155 advanced weathering test with less than 10% variance. It is furnished in black.
- External wind baffle over the vent.
- Internal weather filter that reduces infiltration of windblown snow, rain and dust.
- Built-in ventilating, weather tight end plug that flexes for different roof pitches and protects the roof decking.
- Weep holes on 4 inch centers for water shedding from the cap shingles.
- At least 10 pre-formed nail bosses for positioning the vent on the roof before cap shingling.
- Integral ribbing that maintains the vent profile on various roof pitches and during cap shingling.
- Louver openings no wider than 1/4 inch, sized to limit insect entry and windblown debris.

Intake ventilation, such as soffit vents or CertainTeed Intake Vent, is paired with it.

Code body approvals listed are the Texas Department of Insurance, UL Classified, Miami Dade Approved and ICC Evaluation Service. The vent carries an approval report with the Texas Department of Insurance and with the Miami-Dade County Building Code Compliance Office.
The product is covered by a Lifetime Limited Warranty and 5-Year SureStart Protection.
Use on the roof
Ridge Vent sits along the upper ridge below the cap-shingle course, over a slot in the deck. It is used with asphalt shingle roofing whose ridge cap is nailed through the vent. Filtered and unfiltered formats exist; the figures on this page are for the 12 inch filtered vent.
