SwiftStart SA Rolled Starter

CertainTeed SwiftStart SA Rolled Starter Strip is a self-adhesive, 50-mil membrane that replaces cut shingle tabs for the starter course. The peel-and-stick membrane has a mineral top surface and is 9 inches wide. It is used with designer, laminate and strip shingles and sits at the eave and rake edges of asphalt shingle roofs.

The strip protects the roof edge and provides anchoring power at the eave and rake. It fills the spaces under the cut-outs and edges of the first course of exposed shingles, and a sealing strip resists wind uplift in those areas.

The strip works with all designer, laminate or strip shingles, and it gives waterproof protection and self-sealing around nails and other penetrations. The product SKU is prfa-652.

Each roll is 33.5 ft long and 9 in. wide, covering 25.125 sq. ft. A roll weighs 7.15 lbs.

The membrane is self-adhering with a mineral top surface, and its surface is fully bonded. The compound is formulated for nail sealability. The strip seals itself around nails and other penetrations.

The strip goes directly on the roof deck or over compatible self-adhering underlayments. Application is peel-and-stick, and shingle tabs are not cut for the starter course. The 25.125 sq. ft. roll coverage is the 9 in. width over the 33.5 ft length. The product literature is dated October 2025 under CertainTeed Code No. 00-04-5043-NA-EN.

SwiftStart SA rolled starter conforms to the physical requirements of ASTM D1970 and meets certain FORTIFIED Roof requirements. It is part of CertainTeed's FORTIFIED-compliant roof system, applicable to the U.S. only.

The limited warranty against manufacturing defects runs concurrently with the warranty of the field shingle it is installed with.
