Product overview

Dri-Design MA-X VS Vertical Series applies the MA-X large-format aluminum platform to vertically oriented panels. The catalog also uses the name MVS for this entry. MA-X is a patent-pending, drained and back-ventilated modular rainscreen system with sequential installation.

MA-X VS is a different product from EN-V VS. EN-V VS has a different module schedule, a 1 1/4-inch nominal depth and 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch joints, while MA-X VS uses the MA-X panel and cleat platform.

Materials and construction

The panels are aluminum in two thicknesses, 0.063 inch and 0.080 inch. They are single-skin metal and non-combustible. A flat panel has a standard depth of 1 1/2 inches, and the depth can be increased up to four inches in 1/8-inch increments.

Weight

  • Weight: less than 2 pounds per square foot
  • Material thicknesses: 0.063 inch and 0.080 inch
  • Standard flat depth: 1 1/2 inches
  • Maximum flat depth: 4 inches, in 1/8-inch increments

Vertical panel size

The maximum vertical format is 4 feet wide by 12 feet high. The MA-X platform also covers a horizontal format of up to 12 feet wide by 4 feet high, but the VS Series is the vertical arrangement. The maximum standard size for the platform is 12 feet by 4 feet.

Joints and finishes

MA-X VS has 3/4-inch joints in both the horizontal and the vertical direction. EN-V VS has smaller standard joints.

Finish choices are post-painted 70% PVDF fluoropolymer coatings and clear or colored anodized aluminum. Color samples are ordered through the manufacturer's sample page.

  • Paint finish warranty: up to 20 years
  • Anodized finish warranty: 5 years standard, 10 years available

Performance and approvals

The MA-X platform lists wind performance of up to 130 PSF, with an optional cleat for greater structural performance. HVHZ, impact testing and FL Product approval apply to select configurations. The panel configuration and cleat design are patent-pending.

Vertical details

The MA-X vertical details are dated May 22, 2026. They show vertical panels carried on horizontal Z-girts at 16 inches on center with insulation, over exterior-grade sheathing, metal studs and a commercial weather barrier. Tape seal is shown behind the panels at several conditions. These layers are supplied by others.

The vertical detail set covers:

  • Integral coping and lap coping
  • Head at a soffit, using an MA-X "L" trim with sealant and backer rod
  • Base detail with an MA-X closure trim
  • Storefront sill, panel head at a window sill and panel base at a window head
  • Jamb terminations at a window and at a wall, using an MA-X "L" trim and a start track extrusion
  • 3/4-inch vertical and horizontal joints
  • Fascia and soffit, with weep holes drilled in the field at each side of the panel
  • Sill at soffit and soffit-to-wall transitions with an MA-X coverage trim

Corners

The vertical details include a formed 90 degree outside corner and a formed 135 degree outside corner. Other angles can be made using the same detail as the 135 degree corner.

Cut-to-fit panels

Vertical cut-to-fit panels are finished at the cut edge with an MA-X Attachment J, a continuous 0.080-inch aluminum piece running the full length of the cut edge, together with an MA-X trim over the cut panel edge. A structural rivet is installed every 12 inches along the cut edge. At a cut-to-fit base and at a window head, weep holes are drilled in the field at 16 inches on center, behind a drip flashing.

Layouts

The vertical orientation is offered in a larger panel size than the earlier vertical series. Layout options include stacked and staggered arrangements across colors, sizes and configurations.

Specification section

The manufacturer publishes a guide specification for Section 074213, "MA-X Aluminum Metal Wall Plate Panels". Vertical architectural details are published as a zip download titled "MA-X Vertical Architectural Details".
