Overview

Perforated Imaging is a Dri-Design product in the Perforated Materials group of the AR-C Collection. It forms an image from perforations in metal panels. Computer-based manufacturing varies the size, placement and density of the perforations to create light, dark and in-between tones. It is used on commercial rainscreen facades.

Materials and thickness

  • Aluminum: 0.080 inch to 0.125 inch
  • VMZINC: 1 mm and 1.5 mm
  • Stainless steel and weathering steel: 18 and 16 gauge
  • Copper: 32 and 48 ounce

Material choices are aluminum, VMZINC, copper, stainless steel and weathering steel. Finish options depend on the material. Weight varies with the material.

Depth and joints

Aluminum, stainless steel and weathering steel panels range from 1 1/4 to 4 inches in system depth, while VMZINC and copper panels range from 1 1/4 to 3 inches. Standard joints are 1/2 inch horizontal, up to 1 inch, and 5/8 inch vertical, from 1/8 inch to 1 inch. Warranty is 2 years on all materials.

Standard details

The May 14, 2024 standard details set draws the Dri-Design panel over a horizontal Z-girt with insulation, a commercial weather barrier, exterior grade sheathing and metal studs. Sill drawings call for weep holes drilled in the field at 16 inches on center, and J, small-J, L and Z closure trims are supplied by Dri-Design. Further drawings cover copings, jambs, storefront heads and 90 and 135 degree corners.

Sizes

Perforated panels are sized by material. The flat-panel limits for 0.080 inch aluminum have corner points of 24 by 120 inches, 60 by 30 inches, 120 by 24 inches and 48 by 48 inches. Vertical imaging panels 48 inches and taller take wind clips at no more than 24 inches on center. Shadow and tapered depths reduce maximum panel size.

Specification section

The guide specification for the Perforated Materials group is Section 074213-32, Perforated Metal Plate Wall Panels. The same section covers Perforated Panels and Perforated Imaging.

Custom joints

Joints other than the 1/2 inch horizontal and 5/8 inch vertical standards are made through a Dri-Design technical advisor. The warranty applies to all of the materials, which are aluminum, VMZINC, copper, stainless steel and weathering steel.
