What Trespa Meteon is
Trespa Meteon is an exterior decorative high-pressure compact laminate panel family for ventilated façades. The Meteon range groups Uni Colors, Metallics, Naturals, Wood Decors, Focus and Lumen.
Meteon is engineered for vertical exterior wall coverings such as façade cladding and balcony paneling, as well as horizontal exterior ceiling applications. It is available in two grades: Standard (EDS, not available in all worldwide areas) and Fire-Retardant (EDF, sold as Meteon FR). Both grades are made to EN 438-6.
As a panel-format laminate, Meteon is one of the products used in insulated wall and rainscreen systems.
Materials and construction
Meteon is a decorative high-pressure compact laminate conforming to EN 438-6:2016, with thicknesses of 6 mm (plus or minus 1/4 in) or greater for outdoor applications. The sheets consist of layers of natural fibers, paper and wood, impregnated with thermosetting resins. Surface layers on one or both sides carry decorative colors or designs.
A transparent topcoat is added to the surface layers and cured by Trespa's in-house Electron Beam Curing (EBC) process. The components are bonded under simultaneous heat and high specific pressure. The result is a homogeneous closed material with increased density and an integral decorative surface.

Dimensions and tolerances
Thickness tolerance depends on the thickness band.
- 6.0 mm up to under 8.0 mm: plus or minus 0.40 mm (plus or minus 0.0157 in).
- 8.0 mm up to under 12.0 mm: plus or minus 0.50 mm (plus or minus 0.0197 in).
- 12.0 mm up to under 16.0 mm: plus or minus 0.60 mm (plus or minus 0.0236 in).
Flatness is no more than 2 mm per meter (0.024 in per foot). Length and width tolerance is plus 5 mm and minus 0 (plus 0.1968 in and minus 0). Straightness of edges is no more than 1 mm per meter (0.012 in per foot).
Squareness is given as the maximum difference between diagonals for four sheet sizes.
- 2550 x 1860 mm (100.39 x 73.23 in): 4 mm (0.1575 in).
- 3050 x 1530 mm (120.08 x 60.24 in): 4 mm (0.1575 in).
- 3650 x 1860 mm (143.70 x 73.23 in): 5 mm (0.1969 in).
- 4270 x 2130 mm (168.11 x 83.86 in): 6 mm (0.2362 in).
Surface quality
Spots, dirt and similar surface defects are limited to no more than 2 mm² per m² (0.0003 in² per ft²) under EN 438-2, section 4. Fibers, hairs and scratches are limited to no more than 20 mm per m² (0.073 in per ft²).
Finishes and décors
Satin has an eggshell-like luster. Matt is a low-sheen surface. Rock is a stone-like uneven texture. Matt-Rock combines low sheen with a cleft appearance. The Lumen collection adds Diffuse, Oblique and Specular light effects.
Physical and mechanical properties
- Density: at least 1.35 g/cm³ (EN ISO 1183 and ASTM D792-08).
- Flexural strength: at least 120 MPa (EN ISO 178) and at least 17,500 psi (ASTM D790-07).
- Modulus of elasticity: at least 9,000 MPa (EN ISO 178) and at least 1,305,000 psi (ASTM D638-08).
- Tensile strength: at least 70 MPa (EN ISO 527-2) and at least 10,150 psi (ASTM D638-08).
- Pull-out strength (ISO 13894-1): at least 2,000 N at 6 mm, at least 3,000 N at 8 mm, and at least 4,000 N at 10 mm or thicker.
- Impact by large diameter ball (EN 438-2, section 21): indentation diameter no more than 10 mm with a drop height of 1.8 m. Under ASTM D5420-04, mean failure height is 1.0466 ft and mean failure energy is 11.3 J.
- Dimensional stability at elevated temperature (EN 438-2, section 17): cumulative change no more than 0.25 percent longitudinal and 0.25 percent transversal.
- Resistance to wet conditions (EN 438-2, section 15): mass increase no more than 3 percent, appearance rating at least 4. ASTM D2247-02 water resistance shows no change, and ASTM D2842-06 water absorption is 0.5 percent.
- Thermal resistance and conductivity (EN 12524): 0.3 W/mK.
Weather resistance
- Climatic shock (EN 438-2, section 19): flexural strength index (Ds) and flexural modulus index (Dm) each at least 0.80, appearance rating at least 4.
- Artificial weathering, West European cycle (EN 438-2, section 29): contrast of 4-5 on the gray scale (ISO 105 A02), appearance rating at least 4.
- Artificial weathering, Florida cycle, 3,000 hours (Trespa Standard): contrast of 4-5 on the gray scale, appearance rating at least 4.
- Resistance to SO2 (DIN 50018): contrast of 4-5 on the gray scale, appearance rating at least 4.
Fire performance
Reaction to fire under EN 438-7 depends on grade and thickness.
- At 6 mm (0.2362 in): Euroclass D-s2, d0 for EDS and B-s2, d0 for EDF.
- At 8 mm (0.3150 in) and thicker: Euroclass B-s1, d0 for EDF.
For North America, ASTM E84 material surface burning characteristics are not applicable (n.a.) to the EDS grade. The EDF grade is Class A, with a flame spread index of 0-25 and a smoke developed index of 0-450. In China, GB 8624 gives class D-s2, d0 for EDS and B-s1, d0, t1 for EDF.
The laboratory results are not intended to represent hazards that may be present under actual fire conditions. For multi-story applications, where building codes may require full-scale fire testing in accordance with NFPA 285 (US) or CAN/ULC-S134 (Canada), Trespa directs readers to its website, trespa.info.
