Overview

Golden Eagle is a flat, textured concrete roof tile from Eagle Roofing Products with a pronounced wood-shake-inspired surface. The texture gives a different field rhythm from smooth Bel Air, and its edge and relief differ from the split appearance of Double Eagle Ponderosa. It is a tile for residential concrete tile roofing.

Surface and style

Golden Eagle is made to emulate an upgraded wood shake look. It combines a smooth, flat surface with a partial broom-swept texture. The face has no barrels or rolls.

Golden Eagle and Ponderosa are the flat textured profiles the manufacturer recommends for a staggered installation with a cedar wood shake look. The manufacturer pairs staggered installation with Cottage, Lodge and Tudor architecture.

Specialty installations

Golden Eagle can be installed staggered, rakeless or with a mitered ridge, options listed for flat profiles only. In a rakeless installation a rake wedge takes the place of the 90-degree rake piece, and the Rake Seal piece is hidden once installed. A mitered ridge has the field tiles cut to meet at the ridgeline, with no bulky ridge trim.

Regional availability

The standard profile is offered in California, the Northwest, the Intermountain region and Western Canada, a narrower area than Bel Air, which is offered nationwide and in Canada. Profiles vary by region on the manufacturer's flat tile page.

Weight and count in context

At 88.5 tiles per 100 square feet and 970 pounds installed, Golden Eagle shares its figures with Bel Air, Ponderosa, Sequoia and Tapered Slate.

Capistrano and Malibu, the curved profiles in the range, are listed at 903 pounds standard. Capistrano is 88.5 tiles per square and Malibu is 88.0.

Comparison with neighboring profiles

Ponderosa carries a similar textured face in the same size, count and weight, with a raked texture, and is offered in all regions except Florida, the Southeast, the Northeast and the Midwest. Eaglelite Ponderosa weighs 720 pounds per 100 square feet and is offered in California and the Southwest.
