Overview
EverGuard SA TPO Self-Adhered Membrane is a reinforced thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roof membrane with a factory-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive. The adhesive is a hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive (HMPSA) that holds its bonding power at temperatures down to 20°F (-7°C). The membrane is made for low-slope commercial roofs in the United States.
It is supplied in white only, in 60 mil and 80 mil thicknesses, and in rolls 5 feet by 100 feet and 10 feet by 100 feet. The sheet is more flexible than standard GAF TPO. Seams are heat-welded. Manufacture is at Mount Vernon, IN.
In a TPO roofing system it replaces bucket adhesives: no flash-off wait and no adhesive containers to dispose of, only the release liner.
Thickness and construction
Nominal thickness is tested under ASTM D751 and coating over scrim under ASTM D7635. The ASTM D6878 minimums are 0.039 in. and 0.015 in.
- 60 mil: nominal thickness 0.060 in. (1.52 mm); coating over scrim 0.026 in. (0.66 mm).
- 80 mil: nominal thickness 0.080 in. (2.03 mm); coating over scrim 0.035 in. (0.89 mm).
Warranty or guarantee coverage is available for qualified systems, with additional requirements: up to 20 years at 60 mil and up to 25 years at 80 mil.

Self-adhering system
The membrane is ready to install directly from the factory. It can be applied directly to a variety of substrates, including ISO, HD ISO and gypsum boards, with no primer or anchor sheet required. Approved substrates are given in the application instructions.
The installation sequence is five steps:
- Kick out the roll.
- Remove the release liner.
- Broom in the sheet.
- Use a weighted roller.
- Heat-weld the seams.
The adhesive allows installation at temperatures as low as 20°F (-7°C). Based on head-to-head laboratory testing under controlled conditions, installation is up to 60% faster than with traditional GAF TPO bucket adhesives. Because no solvent-based adhesive is used, there is none of the odor associated with such adhesives on occupied buildings such as schools and hospitals.
Roll sizes and weights
- 10 foot roll, 10 feet by 100 feet (3.05 m by 30.5 m), 1,000 sq ft (92.9 sq m): 372 lb (169 kg) at 60 mil; 456 lb (207 kg) at 80 mil.
- 5 foot roll, 5 feet by 100 feet (1.52 m by 30.5 m), 500 sq ft (46.5 sq m): 186 lb (86 kg) at 60 mil; 228 lb (103 kg) at 80 mil.
Rolls are shipped horizontally on pallets. The adhesive side is aggressive and sticks to skin.
Physical properties
The self-adhered values are approximate guides.
- Breaking strength (ASTM D751, grab method): 338 lbf MD and 305 lbf CD (1,504 N MD and 1,357 N CD) at 60 mil; 400 lbf MD and 380 lbf CD (1,779 N MD and 1,690 N CD) at 80 mil. The minimum is 220 lbf (978 N).
- Factory seam strength (ASTM D751): 134 lbf (596 N) at both thicknesses. The minimum is 66 lbf (294 N).
- Elongation at break (ASTM D751): 30% at both thicknesses. The minimum is 15%.
- Weather resistance (ASTM G155): more than 20,160 kJ/m² at 340 nm with no cracks, pass. The minimum is 10,080 kJ/m² at 340 nm, with no cracks at 7X.
- Heat aging (ASTM D573): pass. Weight change must stay at 1.5% or less after 8 weeks at 275°F (135°C).
- Tear strength (ASTM D751, 8 in. by 8 in. sample), cold brittleness at -40°F (-40°C), dimensional change within plus or minus 1%, water absorption within plus or minus 3%, and ozone exposure with no cracks all pass at both thicknesses.
- Air permeance: below 0.02 L/(s·m²) under ASTM E2178.
Color and reflectance
The membrane is white only. The CRRC rating for product ID 0676-0159 uses ASTM C1549 for solar reflectance, ASTM C1371 for thermal emittance and ASTM E1980 for SRI.
- Initial: 0.81 reflectance, 0.90 emittance, SRI 101.
- After 3 years: 0.67 reflectance, 0.90 emittance, SRI 82.
The SA TPO sheet meets California Title 24, Part 6 cool roof use. A product-specific Environmental Product Declaration contributes toward the LEED credit.
Storage and shelf life
Shelf life is 18 months from the date of manufacture when stored properly. Storage is in a clean, dry environment between 60°F (16°C) and 100°F (38°C) and out of direct sunlight. When stored on site, the membrane is kept dry and at least 20°F (-7°C) before installation.
