Overview
EverGuard TPO Fleece-Back Membrane is a reinforced thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing membrane with a factory-applied polyester fleece backing. It is made for low-slope commercial roofs in the United States and is offered in 45, 60 and 80 mil.
The fleece backing is intended for adhered applications and approved recover assemblies. The membrane does not need a slip sheet when installed over a variety of existing roof systems. Fleece-back TPO adds enhanced puncture resistance against foot traffic, hail and other impacts.
It is one of the TPO membranes in the GAF EverGuard range, which GAF has produced for more than 20 years. It is part of the wider TPO membrane roofing offering, alongside smooth, self-adhered and Extreme versions.
Thickness and construction
Nominal thickness is tested under ASTM D751. The ASTM D6878 minimum is 0.039 in., and the minimum thickness above the scrim is 30% of total thickness.
- 45 mil: nominal thickness 0.045 in. (1.14 mm); thickness above scrim 15.8 mil nominal.
- 60 mil: 0.060 in. (1.52 mm); 22.1 mil nominal above scrim.
- 80 mil: 0.080 in. (2.03 mm); 31.4 mil nominal above scrim.
Guarantees for qualified systems are available by thickness: up to 20 years at 45 mil, up to 25 years at 60 mil and up to 30 years at 80 mil, with additional requirements.

Roll sizes and weights
The 45 mil and 60 mil rolls are 10 feet by 100 feet (3.05 m by 30.5 m), or 1,000 sq ft (92.9 sq m). The 80 mil roll is 10 feet by 50 feet (3.05 by 15.24 m), or 500 sq ft (46.5 sq m). Half-width rolls are 5 feet wide in the same lengths.
- 10 foot roll average weight: 260 lb (118 kg) at 45 mil; 335 lb (152 kg) at 60 mil; 219 lb (110 kg) at 80 mil.
- 5 foot roll average weight: 130 lb (59 kg) at 45 mil; 168 lb (76 kg) at 60 mil; 110 lb (50 kg) at 80 mil.
Fleece-back rolls ship horizontally on pallets, banded and stacked pyramid-style. They are stored in a clean, dry area below 100°F (38°C), and each roll takes at least two people to handle.
Colors and reflectance
The 45 mil membrane is made in White, Tan and Gray. The 60 and 80 mil membranes are made in White, Tan, Gray and Slate Gray. Ratings in the CRRC program use ASTM C1549 (reflectance), C1371 (emittance) and E1980 (SRI). Interim aged values simulate naturally aged values.
- White (0676-0027): initial solar reflectance 0.81, thermal emittance 0.90, SRI 101; aged 3 years 0.75, 0.90, SRI 92.
- Tan (0676-0002): initial 0.65, 0.90, SRI 79; aged 3 years 0.59, 0.84, SRI 69.
- Gray (0676-0045): initial 0.72, 0.87, SRI 88; aged 3 years 0.67, 0.90, SRI 82.
- Slate Gray (0676-0189): initial 0.38, 0.90, SRI 43; aged 3 years 0.33, 0.90, SRI 36.
The white sheet is usable for Title 24, Part 6 cool roof compliance in California.
Physical properties
The fleece-back values are approximate guides. Breaking strength and tear strength are given as machine direction by cross machine direction.
- Breaking strength by grab method: 375 by 330 lbf (1,668 by 2,188 N) at 45 mil; 400 by 360 lbf (1,779 by 1,601 N) at 60 mil; 440 by 390 lbf (1,957 by 1,735 N) at 80 mil. The minimum is 220 lbf (978 N).
- Factory seam strength (ASTM D751), membrane failure: 115 lbf (512 N) at 45 mil; 145 lbf (645 N) at 60 mil; 155 lbf (689 N) at 80 mil. The minimum is 66 lbf (294 N).
- Elongation at break (ASTM D751): 30% at all thicknesses. The minimum is 15%.
- Tear strength (8 in. by 8 in. sample): 90 by 120 lbf (400 by 534 N) at 45 mil; 70 by 130 lbf (311 by 578 N) at 60 mil; 100 by 180 lbf (445 by 801 N) at 80 mil. The minimum is 55 lbf (245 N).
- Puncture resistance (FTM 101C): over 350 lb (159 kg) at 45 mil and over 380 lb (172 kg) at 60 and 80 mil.
- Cold brittleness (ASTM D2137): -40°F (-40°C) at all thicknesses.
- Permeance (ASTM E96): 0.08 perms at all thicknesses.
- Dimensional change (ASTM D1204, 158°F (70°C), 6 hours): 0.2% at 45 mil and 0.4% at 60 and 80 mil. The limit is plus or minus 1%.
- Water absorption (ASTM D471, 158°F (70°C), 1 week): 0.7% at all thicknesses. The limit is plus or minus 3.0%.

Weathering and heat aging
Weather resistance under ASTM G155 and D6878 exceeds 20,000 kJ/(m²·nm) at 340 nm at 45 mil and 25,000 kJ/(m²·nm) at 60 and 80 mil. The minimum is 10,080 kJ/(m²·nm).
Heat aging under ASTM D573 at 240°F (115°C) reaches 60 weeks at every thickness, against a 32-week requirement. Retention of breaking strength and elongation at break after heat aging is 100% at every thickness, against a 90% minimum.
Installation and MembraneShield film
Both mechanical attachment and adhesion are used.
- Adhered with EverGuard WB181 Bonding Adhesive (water based) or hot asphalt.
- LRF Adhesive O: a low-VOC, low-rise foam for minor surface irregularities, in a cartridge or a 5-gallon container.
- LRF Adhesive M: a low-rise foam like LRF-O that also bonds ISO insulation.
- LRF Adhesive XF: a two-part, low-VOC low-rise foam that can adhere up to 24 squares of fleece-back membrane.
- OlyBond 500: a two-part, low-VOC low-rise foam that can adhere up to 24 squares of fleece-back membrane.
The 60 mil fleece-back membrane is available with MembraneShield Temporary Dirt-Blocking Film. The film is a monolayer protective sheet adhered to select EverGuard TPO membranes with a water-insoluble acrylic-based adhesive. It is left on during roof installation and removed after installation is complete or up to 90 days after installation. Only rolls labeled with the film name carry it.
