Crowne Slate is a heavyweight designer asphalt shingle made by IKO for steep-slope roofing in the United States. It is a laminated shingle with two full layers of shingle material, and its square-cut contours follow the look of natural slate tiles.

It carries a Class 4 impact resistance rating and belongs to IKO's Designer Collection with Armourshake and Royal Estate. The data sheet is dated 05/2026.

The Crowne Slate limited warranty term is Limited Lifetime, counted from completion of installation for as long as the owner owns the building. Hail damage to Crowne Slate shingles is outside the limited warranty.

  • Iron Clad Protection: 15 years
  • Limited wind warranty: 110 mph (177 km/h)
  • Limited High Wind Warranty upgrade: 130 mph (210 km/h), which requires the High Wind Application

Installation

  • Exposure to the weather: 10 inches
  • Because of the shiplap feature, installation begins at the lower left corner of the roof
  • Nails go in the nail line
  • Open metal valleys are used
  • Not applied to roof slopes below 2:12
  • Slopes from 2:12 to less than 4:12 count as low slope and use the special underlayment requirements in the IKO application instructions
  • Standard application: 5 nails per shingle
  • Steep slope and high wind applications: 8 nails per shingle, with roofing cement applied
  • For wind resistance, a spot of cement can be added at the shiplap at the time of installation
  • Excessive roofing cement can cause blistering
