Overview
BRAVA Cedar Shake is a hand-split-wood-look composite shake field tile. It is the visible water-shedding layer of a sloped roof and belongs to the BRAVA Roof Tile range of residential shake-look roofing tiles.
Varied widths and a textured face produce an irregular shake rhythm while keeping a defined course length.
Cedar Shake is listed for residential roofing.
Tile size and exposure
Cedar Shake field pieces come in 5-, 7-, and 12-inch widths, each 22 inches long. The three widths are grouped for a varied field appearance.
The field can be laid at a 10-inch or an 8-inch course exposure. The field table for Cedar Shake is on page one of the manufacturer's profile-specification PDF.
All three widths, 5, 7 and 12 inches, share the same 22-inch length, so the course length stays the same while the face width varies.

Bundle quantities and weight
- 10-inch exposure: 14.3 bundles per square.
- 8-inch exposure: 17.9 bundles per square.
- Each bundle holds 12 field shakes.
- Installed field weight: 321 pounds per square at 10-inch exposure and 401 pounds per square at 8-inch exposure.
Moving from 10-inch to 8-inch exposure raises the count from 14.3 to 17.9 bundles per square and the installed weight from 321 to 401 pounds per square. The three widths are grouped within each bundle count.
Accessories
A solid-back piece is offered for visible cut edges. The named companion pieces include a starter and a shake hip-and-ridge cap.
Linear footage of the starter and cap is separate from the square coverage of the field shakes.
Water shedding
The shake surface sheds water, while underlayment and flashings handle water that reaches below it or concentrates at a junction such as a penetration.
The Cedar Shake field table lists the field shakes, while the solid-back piece, starter and shake hip-and-ridge cap are separate components of the same family.
