Overview

Presidential TL Solaris is a CertainTeed laminated asphalt shingle in the residential shingle roofing category. It joins a three-layer shake-style form with solar-reflective granules in a traditional color palette. Its sculptured tabs give the styling, depth and dimension of wood shakes.

The shingle is constructed from three laminated layers. It is designed to resist blow-off in winds up to 110 mph with normal installation and 130 mph with special installation.

Materials and construction

The shingles have a fiber glass mat base. The Presidential TL Solaris granule layer is ceramic-coated mineral granules of high solar reflectance set in refined, water-resistant asphalt. The laminated pieces are bonded with an asphaltic cement and the shingles have a self-sealing adhesive applied.

Colors and solar ratings

All colors are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) and can be used to comply with California Title 24 Part 6 requirements for cool steep slope roofing and the Green Building Standards Code of Los Angeles County for residential buildings. Aged values were calculated using the California Title 24 Solar Reflective Index (SRI) Calculation Worksheet.

  • Autumn Blend, CRRC 0668-0127: aged solar reflectance 0.20, thermal emittance 0.93, SRI 21
  • Charcoal Black, CRRC 0668-0132: aged solar reflectance 0.19, thermal emittance 0.94, SRI 20
  • Country Gray, CRRC 0668-0128: aged solar reflectance 0.21, thermal emittance 0.92, SRI 21
  • Shadow Gray, CRRC 0668-0134: aged solar reflectance 0.19, thermal emittance 0.94, SRI 20

Slope limits and installation

Presidential TL Solaris is used on roofs with slopes greater than or equal to 2 inches per foot. Low-slope applications from 2:12 to less than 4:12 require Vycor or WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment, or an equivalent meeting ASTM D1970, over the entire deck surface.

Above 21 inches per foot, Presidential TL Solaris is nailed with nine nails and roofing cement spots under each tab. The two-layered starter course of Presidential TL Solaris is made with Presidential Starter or an approved alternative starter system.

Hips, ridges and warranty

Mountain Ridge 10-inch AR shingles in a complementary Solaris color cap the hips and ridges. The shingles carry a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 10-year SureStart protection and a 10-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty, upgradeable to 130 mph when using Presidential starter and a CertainTeed brand hip and ridge accessory shingle.

Cool roof technology

Solaris Cool Roof technology is designed to reflect sunlight and reduce heat absorption, and the shingle is built on a fiber glass mat with a granule layer and color blending technology. It combines the look of cedar shakes with a sculpted, rustic form.
