Overview
DECRA Shingle XD is an interlocking, aggregate-coated steel roof panel that resembles heavy-weight dimensional roofing shingles. The panel has multiple vertical ribs that form 2 flat steps, each with raised and lowered pan sections.
It is pre-corrugated, pressure-formed aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel to ASTM A 792/A 792M, with a ceramic-coated, colored-stone chip finish and a maximum recycled steel content of 30 percent. It is part of the DECRA residential roof coverings family.
Materials and construction
Shingle XD is made from 28 gauge steel, 0.0149 inch (0.378 mm) thick. Its flashings and trims are heavier: the XD Valley, side flashing, roof-to-wall flashing, pipe jack flashing, Shingle XD Underpan, fascia metal and Shingle XD Hip & Ridge are all 26 gauge, 0.0179 inch (0.455 mm).

Profile and dimensions
- A Shingle XD panel measures overall 14-1/8 inches wide and 52-3/8 inches long (359 mm by 1,330 mm).
- A Shingle XD panel shows an exposure of 12-1/4 inches by 49-1/2 inches (311 mm by 1,257 mm).
- Side panel laps: 2-3/4 inches (70 mm).
- Panel leading edges are bent down 1/2 inch (13 mm), which provides overlap for weather protection and adjoining to the prior roof panel course.
- Installed weight: 140 pounds per 100 square feet.
Finishes and colors
Shingle XD colors are Classic Cobblestone, Midnight Eclipse, Natural Slate, Old Hickory and Woodland Green, all in the ceramic-coated, colored-stone chip finish. Woodland Green is made to order, with longer production times possible.
Performance and approvals
- Fire rating: Class A, B or C is selected for ASTM E 108 and UL 790, and the panel is classed as non-combustible.
- Impact resistance: UL 2218 Class 4.
- ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-1754 covers DECRA Shingle XD for direct-to-roof deck installation.
- Florida Building Code approval for Shingle XD direct-to-roof deck installation: FL9759-R10.
- CCMC National Building Code of Canada approval for Shingle XD direct-to-roof deck installation: 13551-R.
The warranty period written for Shingle XD on single-family detached residential use is lifetime limited, and for multi-family residential and non-residential use it is 50-year limited. Both Shingle XD terms carry a wind term of resisting blow-off in wind speeds up to 120 mph and a hail term with a hail stone size limit of 2.5 inches.
Installation
Shingle XD requires a minimum slope of 4:12 (33 percent), steeper than the 3:12 minimum for the Shake XD and tile profiles. On Shingle XD, slopes from 2:12 (16 percent) to less than 4:12 make the panels decorative, to be installed over a roof covering system in accordance with the local building code.
Shingle XD panels are installed direct to the roof deck with a minimum of five fasteners in the back panel clip, set horizontally along the clip in the target screw hole punch-outs. Shingle XD panels are laid in a random stagger pattern. Shingle XD valleys have a minimum 6-inch (152 mm) overlap in the direction of flow, with panels cut into each side of the valley straight and true to its line.
Shingle XD hip and ridge ends are bent, folded and capped with an end cap or similar material. On Shingle XD, racking, vertical alignment, even offsets and patterned layouts are not used, and lead, copper and copper-treated pressure-treated lumber are excluded.
Accessories and trims
- XD Valley: pressure formed into a valley with a stone-coated valley cap matched to the shingle material.
- Side flashing: ceramic-coated, colored-stone chip finish to match the roofing.
- Underpan: pressure formed to counter flash roof penetrations in the Shingle XD profile.
- Fascia metal: pressure formed angle in 3.5 inch (89 mm) or 5 inch (127 mm) sizes.
- Hip & Ridge: covers, fasciae, drips, rakes and other trim matching the roofing.
Shingle XD underlayment is ASTM D 226 Type I number 15 or Type II number 30 felt, with 40 mil self-adhering perimeter underlayment to ASTM D 1970 for ice dam protection. Shingle XD sealant is ASTM C 920 one-part elastomeric, and its screws are corrosion resistant, minimum number 9.
