Presidential Shake

Presidential Shake is a CertainTeed residential shingle roofing product with a sculptured tab that gives the styling, depth and dimension of wood shakes. It is constructed from two laminated layers and is designed to resist blow-off in winds up to 110 mph with normal installation and 130 mph with special installation.

An algae-resistant form, Presidential Shake AR, helps protect against staining or discoloration caused by algae (gloeocapsa magma). Colors of Presidential Shake vary by region.

Presidential Shake shingles have a fiber glass mat base. The Presidential Shake granule surface is ceramic-coated mineral granules set in refined, water-resistant asphalt, the laminated pieces are bonded with an asphaltic cement, and a self-sealing adhesive is applied.

The shingle is a shake-style, multi-layer laminated shingle with a fiberglass base and a protective outer layer. Color blending gives a dimensional look. An interlocking system, self-sealing adhesive strips and the NailTrak feature with nailing targets are part of the design.

Slopes of 4 inches per foot and greater are recommended for optimum appearance. For low-slope applications, CertainTeed WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment or an equivalent, or two layers of 36-inch wide felt shingle underlayment meeting ASTM D226, D4869 or D6757 lapped 19 inches, covers the entire deck.

Where icing along the eaves can cause water to back up, WinterGuard or an equivalent is applied on all slopes. Above 21 inches per foot, Presidential Shake is nailed with nine nails and roofing cement spots under each tab.

The two-layered starter course of Presidential Shake is made with Presidential Starter or an approved alternative starter system. Cedar Crest, or the enhanced high profile accessory shingle Mountain Ridge, in a like color caps the hips and ridges.

Presidential Shake carries a lifetime or 50-year transferable limited warranty, depending on ownership and building type, against manufacturing defects for the original owner, plus 10 years of SureStart Protection. Presidential Shake AR shingles carry a 30-year algae resistance warranty when installed with the CertainTeed Hip and Ridge accessories named above.
