XT 25

XT 25 is a three-tab asphalt shingle made by CertainTeed for residential and commercial roofs. It is made in English dimensions only, 12 inches by 36 inches, and the algae-resistant version is sold as XT 25 AR.

Unlike the laminated Landmark shingles, XT 25 is a single-layer strip shingle. In residential shingle roofing it forms the exposed field covering, while underlayment, flashing and ventilation are separate components.

XT 25 has a fiber glass mat base with ceramic-coated mineral granules embedded in refined, water-resistant asphalt. It has self-sealing adhesive and is a three-tab shingle.

XT 25 AR shingles help protect against dark or black discoloration, sometimes called staining or streaking, caused by blue-green algae. Available colors vary by region. The colors offered for XT 25 AR in each region are listed in the product brochure and on the CertainTeed website.

XT 25 goes onto plywood, wood plank and concrete decks. Underlayment, starter shingles and ridge vents are the companion components named for it.

Listed characteristics are fire resistance, wind resistance, tear resistance and wind-driven rain resistance.

XT 25 is used on roofs with slopes greater than 2 inches per foot. Low slope applications, from 2:12 to less than 4:12, require additional underlayment. Where icing along the eaves can cause a backup of water, CertainTeed WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment or its equivalent goes on following the instructions supplied with the product and on the shingle package.

On slopes greater than 21 inches per foot, a spot of roofing cement is placed under each tab corner, following the instructions on the shingle package.

• SureStart protection: 5 years
• Wind resistance warranty: 5 years at 60 mph

The product is rated for winds up to 60 mph and for Class A fire resistance.
