Overview

Bel Air is a smooth, flat-looking concrete roof tile made by Eagle Roofing Products, with crisp straight lines. It is a field tile for residential concrete tile roofing.

The smooth face separates Bel Air from the textured Ponderosa, Estate and Golden Eagle profiles. Double Eagle Bel Air is a related form that adds a visible center division.

Surface and style

Bel Air is a low-pitched flat profile with an untextured face and smooth lines. The profile has no barrels or rolls. It is paired with Transitional, Modern, Contemporary and Craftsman homes.

Flat concrete tiles can emulate the surface and style of other roofing materials such as wood shake, clay and slate. Bel Air is one of the flat profiles recommended for a staggered installation that gives a slate-like look, together with Textured and Tapered Slate profiles.

Dimensions and layout

Each Bel Air tile is 12 3/8 inches wide and 17 inches long. Laid with a 3-inch headlap, it covers a square at 88.5 tiles per 100 square feet.

  • Tile width: 12 3/8 inches
  • Tile length: 17 inches
  • Headlap: 3 inches
  • Tiles per 100 square feet: 88.5

Weight

Standard-weight Bel Air weighs approximately 970 pounds per 100 square feet installed. The Eaglelite lightweight version weighs approximately 720 pounds per 100 square feet installed.

Colors

Bel Air is offered in colors that run from grays to beiges. Color names shown in Eagle's regional catalogs for the staggered Bel Air include 4687 Brown Gray Range and 297 Slate Range. A color shown may not be available in every region, and many Eagle colors are approved by the Cool Roof Rating Council for reflectivity.

Specialty installations

Staggered, rakeless and mitered ridge installations are options for flat profiles only. A staggered installation uses the flat Bel Air, Textured or Tapered Slate profile for a slate-like look. A rakeless installation replaces the 90-degree rake piece with a rake wedge, and Rake Seal is designed to fit the flat profiles and is not visible once installed. A mitered ridge installation cuts the field tiles to meet at the ridgeline, which removes bulky ridge trim.

Regional availability

Standard Bel Air is offered nationwide and in Canada, which is the widest availability of the profiles on the Eagle technical sheet. Eaglelite Bel Air is offered in California and the Southwest.

Lightweight and regional versions

Eaglelite is the lightweight form of Bel Air, 250 pounds per 100 square feet lighter than the standard tile. It is offered in California and the Southwest. Everywhere else, including Canada, the standard 970 pound tile is the version offered.

Both versions use the same 12 3/8 by 17 inch face and the same 3-inch headlap, so the count of 88.5 tiles per square is identical for each.

Place in the Eagle range

The same technical sheet carries Golden Eagle, Ponderosa, Sequoia and Tapered Slate at the same 12 3/8 by 17 inch size, 88.5 tiles per square and 970 pound standard weight as Bel Air, each with its own regions. Capistrano is 903 pounds standard, 880 pounds in its Florida version and 570 pounds in Eaglelite. Malibu is counted at 88.0 tiles per square and weighs 903 pounds standard, 770 pounds in Florida and 550 pounds in Eaglelite.
