Overview

Ponderosa is a flat concrete roof tile from Eagle Roofing Products with a wood-shake-like texture across its face. It supplies a textured flat field and is used in residential concrete tile roofing.

Double Eagle Ponderosa is a separate profile that adds a center bevel dividing each tile and changing the apparent shake scale.

Surface, fire class and style

Ponderosa has a raked texture on the face of the tile, with textured shadow lines across the surface. It has the uncultivated appearance of wood shake, and the tile is named a Class A fire-rated material. The face has no barrels or rolls.

The manufacturer pairs the rustic look with Farmhouse, Craftsman and Bungalow exteriors. Ponderosa and Golden Eagle are the flat textured profiles recommended for a staggered installation with a cedar wood shake look. Ponderosa is not available in all regions.

Weight

Standard Ponderosa weighs approximately 970 pounds per 100 square feet installed. Eaglelite Ponderosa weighs approximately 720 pounds per 100 square feet installed.

Eaglelite version

Eaglelite Ponderosa is the lightweight version of the tile at 720 pounds per 100 square feet, which is 250 pounds below the standard tile. It has the same 12 3/8 by 17 inch size, 3-inch headlap and 88.5 tile count, and is offered in California and the Southwest.

Of the other textured profiles, only Bel Air also has an Eaglelite version on the technical sheet.

Specialty installations

Ponderosa is a candidate for the staggered, rakeless and mitered ridge installation options that exist only for flat profiles. Rakeless work uses a rake wedge instead of a 90-degree rake piece. Mitered ridge work meets cut field tiles at the ridgeline.

Regional availability

Standard Ponderosa is offered in all regions except Florida, the Southeast, the Northeast and the Midwest. Eaglelite Ponderosa is offered in California and the Southwest. Ponderosa and Tapered Slate are listed for the same regions in standard weight.

Comparison with neighboring profiles

Bel Air is smooth where Ponderosa is textured, and it is available nationwide and in Canada. Golden Eagle is a textured tile of the same size and weight offered in California, the Northwest, the Intermountain region and Western Canada. Sequoia takes Ponderosa's place in Florida, the Southeast, the Northeast and the Midwest.
