Overview
The LS-36 is a Metl-Span insulated, exposed-fastener metal panel used on both roofs and walls in commercial and industrial buildings. It is a through-fastened panel with an overlapping joint, and its coverage width is 36 inches.
It belongs to the Metl-Span range of insulated metal panels in the United States. The panel can be used on roof slopes as low as 1/2 inch in 12 inches. It is made in a roof version and a wall version, and the wall version is installed horizontally or vertically.
Materials and construction
The exterior face is G-90 galvanized or AZ-50 aluminum-zinc coated steel in 26, 24 or 22 gauge, and the 26 gauge exterior is available only for wall applications. The interior face comes in 26, 24 or 22 gauge G-90 galvanized or AZ-50 aluminum-zinc coated steel.
The joint is overlapping with a single tongue-and-groove.

Dimensions
The LS-36 is made in seven thicknesses.
- Width: 36 inches.
- Thickness: 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 inches.
- Panels run 8 feet 0 inches to 50 feet 0 inches long.
Thermal values
Values are for a 36 inch panel width, with U-factor in BTU/h-ft2-F and R-value in h-ft2-F/BTU. R-value is given as one figure for wall and roof.
- 1 1/2 inches: U-factor 0.071 wall and 0.071 roof, R-value 13.4.
- 2 inches: 0.055 wall and 0.054 roof, R-value 17.9.
- 2 1/2 inches: 0.044 wall and 0.044 roof, R-value 22.4.
- 3 inches: 0.037 wall and 0.037 roof, R-value 26.9.
- 4 inches: 0.028 wall and 0.029 roof, R-value 35.9.
- 5 inches: 0.023 wall and 0.023 roof, R-value 44.8.
- 6 inches: 0.019 wall and 0.020 roof, R-value 53.8.
Finishes and colors
Seven finish systems are offered: Fluropon, Fluropon Premier, Fluropon Classic, Flurothane, Flurothane Coastal, WeatherXL and Igloo White Polyester. Colors appear on a Metl-Span color chart as approximations.
On metallic finishes, color shift, shade variation, striations and longitudinal patterning are inherent characteristics. Tuff Cote Light Stone differs from Standard SP Light Stone.
Load tables
Allowable Stress Design (ASD) is the basis of the published load span tables. ASCE 7-10 (LRFD) loads are handled through the ASD combinations in section 2.4.1 of ASCE 7-10. A separate FM Global requirements page is linked. Guide specification: MasterFormat 2012 section 07 42 13.19.
Four load span tables are published, for 26 gauge and 24 gauge faces in roof and wall use, each for a PIR core. The panel is documented with PIR-core wall and roof data sheets. Weight tables are being updated.
