Overview

ALUCOBOND EasyFix is an open-jointed, back-ventilated architectural cladding system. It uses processed and field-folded ALUCOBOND PLUS panels attached with proprietary EasyFix clip or rail extrusions. The panels ship flat. The system has two route-and-return folds, one at 135 degrees and one at 90 degrees, with a two-sided attachment method. It is listed for AAMA 509 drained and back-ventilated rainscreen testing and is used on multi-story wood-framed construction.

System depth is 1-3/16 inches. System weight is 1.9 lb/ft2. The data sheet carries a 2023 date, with a 10.2025 footer.

Applications

  • Interior: above and below grade wall covering, ceilings, column and beam wraps.
  • Exterior: above grade wall rainscreen cladding, ventilated and solid soffits, fascia, column and beam wraps, and copings over wood, metal and concrete construction.

Field adjustment, installation from any direction, attachment directly to wood sheathing and panels that ship flat are listed system features. Panels are installed horizontally from top to bottom, horizontally from bottom to top, or vertically on hat-channel. Layouts, widths and lengths are customizable, and all ALUCOBOND PLUS colors and finishes are available.

Panel

The processed panel is a 4 mm aluminum composite panel with 0.020-inch finished aluminum facing, a fire-retardant thermoplastic core and a 0.020-inch aluminum backer. There are 89 stock finishes, including PVDF fluoropolymer, FEVE fluoropolymer, siliconized polyester, clear anodized and color anodized. Surface panel width is up to 48 inches, and sheets run to a maximum of 62 by 400 inches. Widths run from 6 to 48 inches and lengths from 7 inches to 16 feet. Weight is 1.56 lbs per sq ft. A standard EasyFix panel has 3 route lines on the back.

The panels are inserted using either short clips or a continuous rail. Clips are 3 inches long.

Clips and rails

The extrusions are 6063-T6 aluminum with an AAMA 611 anodized black Class 1 finish.

  • EasyFix 135 degree Starter: clip 3-1/2 inches by 3 inches, 0.1625 lbs each; rail 3-1/2 inches by 12 feet, 7.8 lbs each. Clip material 7007013-US, rail 7007022-US.
  • EasyFix 90/135 degree Joint: clip 2-7/16 inches by 3 inches, 0.241 lbs each; rail 2-7/16 inches by 12 feet, 11.577 lbs each. Clip material 7007010-US, rail 7007020-US.
  • EasyFix 90 degree End: clip 1-5/8 inches by 3 inches, 0.1356 lbs each; rail 1-5/8 inches by 12 feet, 6.509 lbs each. Clip material 7007011-US, rail 7007021-US.

Fasteners

  • #10 sheet metal screw, 1-1/2 inch minimum, hex or truss head, black, to attach clip or rail to wood sheathing.
  • #12 self-drilling screw, hex or truss head, black, to attach clip or rail to steel studs or z-girts.
  • #8 x 5/8 stainless steel thread-forming pinning screw, for vertical installation only, screwed into the clip or rail screw boss.
  • Stainless steel pinning washer, 0.03 by 0.17 by 3/8 inch, that supports and pins the panel to the clip.
  • Facade tape, optional.

Test standards and layout

Listed standards are ASTM E-330, ASTM E-331, ASTM E-84 and NFPA 285, plus AAMA 2605, AAMA 2604 and ASTM D1781 for the panels. Layouts can be vertical, horizontal or a combination including diagonal, with stacked, half running bond or third running bond reveals.

Storage

Material is stored in a cool dry area. Condensation from temperature swings can permanently mark stored sheets, especially anodized material, and horizontal crates need support against sagging.

EasyFix is an open-joint alternative to the four-sided Dry Reveal system and is a type of ventilated rainscreen cladding.
