Relevant manufacturer history

The architecture division of the company developed ALUCOBOND in 1969, at the same time as KAPA. The business traces its roots to 1956, when Lonza founded Airex AG in Sins, Aargau. In 1990 alusuisse composites was founded, and the Singen plant was expanded in 1994 to produce ALUCORE.

Alcan took over Alusuisse in 2000, and Rio Tinto acquired Alcan in 2007. In 2009 Schweiter Technologies took over Alcan Composites, and in 2010 it was renamed 3A Composites. Later acquisitions were Foamalite in 2012, Polycasa in 2015, Athlone Extrusions in 2017 and Perspex International Ltd. in 2019. The SINTREX product was launched in 2025.

The Americas business has since expanded its architectural metal range with the ALUCOLUX rebrand alongside ALUCOBOND PLUS.
