What the panel is and where it is used
Nail Strip 1" is a Fasteel Metal Roof Solutions metal panel with a thin rib profile. The panel carries an integral slotted fastening strip along its edge. That strip takes the fasteners, so the panel needs no clips and no seamer.
The panel is used as a roof panel on residential or light commercial buildings. It is also used as a wall panel. Roofers who need standing seam metal roofing and clips for other projects will find that this product follows a different attachment method: the panels fix straight to the roof deck.
The panel belongs to the Fasteel metal panel lineup, which also includes Standing Seam, Snap Lock, R-Panel, Corrugated and soffit panels. Nail Strip is the one that attaches directly to the deck and is installed without clips or mechanical seaming.
Profile and sizes
The profile is a single, standard size. Every dimension below applies to each panel.
- Nominal seam height: 1".
- Standard panel width: 16".
- Minimum slope: 3:12.
- Rib style: thin rib.
- Fastening: integral slotted fastening strip.
The panel is 16" wide and the seam stands 1" high. The product name carries that seam height: Nail Strip 1". The thin rib profile keeps the seam slim.
The minimum slope is 3:12. A roof that falls less than 3 units in every 12 units of run is below the minimum for this panel.

Surface patterns
The flat of the panel comes in three surface patterns.
- Smooth.
- Two ribs.
- Striations.
Smooth panels have a plain flat. Two-rib panels carry two ribs along the flat. Striated panels carry striations along the flat. All three patterns use the same 16" width and the same 1" nominal seam height.
Materials, coatings and finishes
Nail Strip 1" is made in steel and in copper. The steel versions come in two gauges and three coating or finish systems. The copper version comes in two weights.
- 26 and 24 Ga acrylic coated Galvalume.
- 24 Ga Kynar 500 color finish.
- 26 and 24 Ga Paint Grip.
- 16 and 20 oz. copper.
Galvalume panels carry an acrylic coating and are supplied in 26 Ga and 24 Ga. Paint Grip panels are also supplied in 26 Ga and 24 Ga. The Kynar 500 color finish is applied to 24 Ga panels. The copper panels are 16 oz. or 20 oz.
The product can last up to 60 years with the right substrate. The substrate under the panel is therefore part of the service life of the roof.
How the panel is installed
Nail Strip panels are attached directly to the roof deck. No clips are used. No seamer is used. The fasteners pass through the integral slotted fastening strip into the deck.
Because the strip is integral, the roof carries no separate clip hardware under the panels. Installation needs no seaming equipment.
The same direct attachment applies when the panel is used as a wall panel.
Performance and testing
Nail Strip 1" carries three UL ratings.
- UL 580 Class 90 wind uplift rated.
- UL 2218 Class 4 impact rated.
- UL 790 Class A fire rated.
UL 580 covers wind uplift, and the panel is rated to Class 90. UL 2218 covers impact, and the panel is rated to Class 4. UL 790 covers fire, and the panel is rated to Class A.
The certification marks printed for the product are UL, Energy Star and the Cool Roof Rating Council.
What each version is for
The choice between versions follows the metal, the finish and the surface pattern.
- Acrylic coated Galvalume in 26 or 24 Ga: a steel panel with a coated surface.
- Paint Grip in 26 or 24 Ga: a steel panel with a Paint Grip finish.
- Kynar 500 in 24 Ga: a steel panel with a color finish.
- Copper in 16 or 20 oz.: a copper panel.
Smooth, two-rib and striated patterns are available on each. Roofs of 3:12 slope or steeper take the panel. Residential and light commercial roofs use it for its direct attachment. Wall areas use it as a wall panel.
