What the Standard RoofBoot is

The Standard RoofBoot is a square flexible sleeve boot made by Marco Industries. It flashes a pipe where the pipe passes through a roof. The flexible square base forms a seal on almost any panel configuration and roof pitch, regardless of the pipe location or type of roofing surface. Surfaces include metal, plastic and tile.

Pipe penetrations are a routine part of metal roof restoration and repair, alongside sealants and fastener replacement. The boot suits that work because the sleeve is cut on site to match the pipe, and the base is formed to the roof profile.

The Universal RoofBoot is the round-base companion product. It carries the same sleeve materials and specifications.

Sizes and pipe ranges

The Standard RoofBoot has a Mini, nine numbered sizes (#1 to #9) and a Maxi. That makes eleven sizes in all.

The Standard RoofBoot comes in eleven sizes, from Mini to Maxi. Each size covers a range of pipe diameters and has a set base dimension.

  • Mini: pipe range 1/8" - 3/4", base 2 1/4" (57 mm)
  • #1: pipe range 1/4" - 2 3/4", base 4 1/2" (114 mm)
  • #2: pipe range 7/8" - 4", base 6" (152 mm)
  • #3: pipe range 1/4" - 5 3/4", base 8" (203 mm)
  • #4: pipe range 2 3/4" - 7", base 10" (254 mm)
  • #5: pipe range 4" - 8 1/4", base 11" (279 mm)
  • #6: pipe range 4 3/4" - 10", base 12" (279 mm)
  • #7: pipe range 5 1/2" - 11 1/2", base 14" (355 mm)
  • #8: pipe range 6 3/4" - 13 1/2", base 17" (431 mm)
  • #9: pipe range 9 1/2" - 20 1/2", base 25" (635 mm)
  • Maxi: pipe range 12" - 28 1/2", base 34" (863 mm)

The smallest base is 2 1/4" (57 mm) on the Mini. The largest base is 34" (863 mm) on the Maxi. The Maxi also takes the widest pipe, up to 28 1/2".

Materials and colors

The sleeve is made of EPDM or silicone. Both materials give maximum resistance to ozone weathering. They are also resistant to ultraviolet light.

Standard colors are black or gray EPDM and red or gray silicone. Other colors are available on request.

  • Gray
  • Dark Gray (call for availability)
  • Black
  • Light Green
  • Terra Cotta
  • Light Blue
  • Dark Green
  • Bright Red
  • White
  • Brown
  • Dark Blue
  • Copper (call for availability)
  • Tan (call for availability)

The sleeve is clearly marked so it can be cut on site to the pipe diameter. The sleeve flexes to absorb vibration and pipe movement caused by expansion and contraction.

Ozone and temperature performance

Ozone resistance is 70 hrs @ 500pphm for both EPDM and red silicone. The rating covers the two sleeve materials.

High temperature resistance is rated two ways.

  • Intermittent: +135°C/+275°F for EPDM and +260°C/+500°F for red silicone.
  • Continuous: +100°C/+212°F for EPDM and +225°C/+437°F for red silicone.

Low temperature resistance is -55°C/-67°F for EPDM and -74°C/-101°F for red silicone.

Compression set is 25% for EPDM and 50% for red silicone. Red silicone has the higher temperature ratings at both ends of the range. EPDM has the lower compression set.

Warranty and listing

A 20-year warranty is standard on the Standard RoofBoot. A 35-year warranty is available on black EPDM Standard RoofBoots only.

The black EPDM version is the first ICC-listed flashing in the metal building industry with a 35-year warranty.

The Universal RoofBoot carries a 20-year warranty. Its sleeve comes in the same EPDM and silicone materials.

The 35-year option is a feature of the Standard RoofBoot, in black EPDM.

How the boot is installed

Installation takes three steps. The sleeve is trimmed and the fit is customized on site.

  1. Choose the pipe opening and trim the sleeve.
  2. Apply Marco's Weather-Tite Metal Roof Sealant, slide the boot over the pipe and form to the roof profile.
  3. Secure to the roof with fasteners to complete the installation.

An installation video and a roof pitch calculator are published at marcoindustries.com/roofboots.

Which version suits which job

Pipe diameter decides the size. The #1 fits pipes of 1/4" to 2 3/4". The #5 fits 4" to 8 1/4" pipes. Pipes from 12" to 28 1/2" need the Maxi. Pipes of 3/4" or less take a Mini.

Material decides the thermal rating. EPDM suits sleeves held to +100°C/+212°F continuous. Red silicone is rated to +225°C/+437°F continuous.

Warranty decides the color and material. The 35-year warranty applies to black EPDM only. Gray EPDM, red silicone and gray silicone carry the standard 20-year warranty.

Round pipes on a different base shape take the Universal RoofBoot. Its pipe ranges run from the Mini at 0" - 3/4" to the #9 at 9" - 19".

Other Marco flashings cover other conditions. Retrofit boots come round or square in three sizes. Extreme Angle boots handle any extreme roof pitch. Specialty boots cover multi-flash, solar and multi-port needs. The Box Gutter Expansion Joint is a gray EPDM edge strip, 9" wide, in 12', 33' and 50' lengths.
