Overview
Deck-Mate is a Portals Plus pipe flashing for penetrations through metal roof and wall systems. It is a compression-molded rubber boot with a stepped profile and an integral aluminum base flange, and it is the flashing used wherever a pipe of 26 in. or less in diameter passes through a corrugated metal roof or wall. It is one of the roof penetration flashings in the Portals Plus range.
The stepped sides of the boot form a compression seal against Schedule 40 piping. Reinforcing ribs hold the shape of the flashing and support the stainless steel clamp that is fitted at the top step. The clamp keeps the seal watertight over time.
Deck-Mate seals the penetration without caulk. The National Roofing Contractors Association's Better Roofing Practices hold that caulk should never be used as a primary sealer of a penetration, and the Deck-Mate relies on the compression seal and the clamp instead.
The flashing works with any configuration of corrugated metal roof. Its flange is dead-soft aluminum and bends to any contour, roof irregularity or pitch.
Models and pipe sizes
Deck-Mate is made in eleven models, DM0 through DM10, accommodating penetrations from 0.125 in. up to 26 in. in diameter. Sizes are given as the outside diameter of the pipe, with two further chart dimensions, A and B, in inches:
- DM0: pipe .125 in. to .75 in.; A .85 in.; B 2.25 in.
- DM1: pipe .25 in. to 2 in.; A 3.25 in.; B 5 in.
- DM2: pipe 1.25 in. to 3 in.; A 4.5 in.; B 6.25 in.
- DM3: pipe .25 in. to 4 in.; A 5.5 in.; B 7.5 in.
- DM4: pipe 3 in. to 6 in.; A 4.5 in.; B 10 in.
- DM5: pipe 4 in. to 8 in.; A 4 in.; B 12.5 in.
- DM6: pipe 5 in. to 9 in.; A 5 in.; B 12.5 in.
- DM7: pipe 6 in. to 11 in.; A 6.25 in.; B 17 in.
- DM8: pipe 7 in. to 13 in.; A 6.25 in.; B 18 in.
- DM9: pipe 10 in. to 18 in.; A 4.75 in.; B 22.5 in.
- DM10: pipe 13 in. to 26 in.; A 6.25 in.; B 30.5 in.
The sizing chart also carries a row of square dimensions, G, running from 2.25 x 2.25 in. on the DM0 up to 30.2 x 30.2 in. on the DM10. Intermediate values are 5 x 5, 6.25 x 6.25, 7.6 x 7.6, 9.7 x 9.7, 12.3 x 12.3 (twice), 17 x 17, 18.2 x 18.2 and 24.8 x 24.8 in.
Where the pipe opening falls at the bottom of a boot's size range, the next smaller boot is used.

Standard and Retrofit styles
Deck-Mate comes in two styles:
- Standard, for typical roof penetrations.
- Retrofit, for pipe applications where the pipe cannot be disconnected.
Both styles use the same stepped-profile boot and aluminum flange.
Materials, flange and colors
Deck-Mate is compression molded from one of two rubbers:
- EPDM, the standard material, serviceable from -60°F to +270°F.
- High-temperature silicone, serviceable from -100°F to +500°F.
Both materials resist ozone and ultraviolet light.
The base is a corrosion-resistant flexible aluminum flange 1 in. wide. Because the flange is dead-soft aluminum, it bends to the roof profile when the flashing is pressed down.
The DM3 and DM5 are available in colors: Black, Dark Blue, Gray, Dark Green, Light Green, Brown and Terra Cotta. The other models are not marked for color options.
Snaplock Clamp
Each Deck-Mate comes with the Portals Plus Snaplock Clamp, a stainless steel clamp that secures the flashing to the pipe. The DM0 is the exception and is supplied without the clamp.
The clamp is fitted at the top step of the boot. Together with the stepped profile and reinforcing ribs, it holds the seal against the pipe.
Installation steps
Installation of the Deck-Mate follows six numbered steps:
- Step 1. Select sizing. When the opening is at the bottom of a boot size, go to the next smaller size boot.
- Step 2. Select and trim. Choose a Deck-Mate with an opening at least 20% smaller than the pipe diameter. If necessary, trim the opening to 20% smaller than the pipe diameter.
- Step 3. Slide the Deck-Mate down over the pipe. A non-petroleum based lubricant eases installation.
- Step 4. Apply sealant between the base and the roof membrane.
- Step 5. Press the Deck-Mate down, bending it to conform to the roof profile or roof irregularities. A blunt tool helps press the flashing into tight roof angles.
- Step 6. Use fasteners to complete sealing. For UPC installation, fastener spacing may not exceed 1.5 in. (38 mm). Install and tighten the stainless clamp at the top step of the Deck-Mate.
Specification wording
Deck-Mate flashing is furnished and installed at all metal roof or wall penetrations of 26 in. or less in diameter. The flashing is EPDM or high-temperature silicone compression molded rubber with a 1 in. wide corrosion-resistant flexible aluminum base, and it includes the Portals Plus Snaplock Clamp except on the DM0.
The earlier specification wording is a molded EPDM pipe boot with stepped sides to accommodate various pipe sizes, an integral aluminum flange and a stainless steel clamp for positive securement of the Deck-Mate to the pipe. EPDM is serviceable from -60°F to +270°F and resists ozone and ultraviolet rays; silicone is serviceable from -100°F to +500°F.
