Overview
The Menzies Dektite Retro Combo is a pipe flashing sold by Portals Plus for standard and retrofit applications. On a new penetration it slides down the pipe without cutting. Where the pipe cannot be disconnected or lifted out, the flashing is cut along its zipper seam, wrapped around the pipe and closed with the clips supplied. Adding clips converts it for retrofit use, so one flashing covers both situations.
This page covers three versions of the one product: Black, Silicone and SHR (Shingle Roof Retro Flashing). All three share the slide-down or cut-and-clip design. They differ in material, temperature range, size range and the roof surface they are made for.
The flashing seals a round pipe where it passes through a roof surface. It is used as one of the penetration details on low-slope and flat roof assemblies, and the SHR version is made for asphalt shingle roofs.
How the three versions differ
- Black: the standard version, in black, with nine sizes from #2 to #10. It withstands constant temperatures at the roofline from -50°C (-58°F) up to 115°C (239°F).
- Silicone: a silicone version with seven sizes, #2 to #8. It withstands high temperatures up to 250°C (482°F) and low temperatures down to -50°C (-58°F). It is paintable with 100% high gloss acrylic paint.
- SHR: the Shingle Roof Retro Flashing, one size that fits pipe from 0 in. to 6 in. It has an aluminum base flange and is made for use with asphalt shingles. Its stated low-temperature limit is -50°C (-58°F).
Black and Silicone are sized by number and carry the same size ranges from #2 through #8. Black adds the larger #9 and #10 sizes, which Silicone does not offer.

Materials, color and temperature range
The #2 and #3 sizes come in three materials and colors: black EPDM, gray EPDM and red silicone. The #2 codes are DC102BC, DC102GC and DC202REC; it is fitted to an aluminum base and weighs 197.03 g. The #3 codes are DC103BC, DC103GC and DC203REC, and it weighs 284.76 g.
The Silicone product text describes the material as red silicone, while its parts table lists the color as Orange. The silicone version withstands up to 250°C (482°F), compared with 115°C (239°F) for the Black version.
The SHR pipe seal is EPDM rubber, a polymer compatible with asphalt shingles, on a soft aluminum base that can be fitted to the roof surface by hand. The aluminum flange nails securely to the roof. The SHR is sold as the pipe seal and flange only, and an electrical cap is not included.
Listings and standards
The Black and Silicone versions are listed to meet CSA B272 and IAPMO PS 64-2007a. The SHR version is listed to meet IAPMO PS64, and it is approved for use with USA/Canadian galvanized pipe application.
An IAPMO Research and Testing certificate of listing, File No. 5789, was issued to Deks Industries Pty. Ltd. for roof flashings with an effective date of June 2017 and a void-after date of June 2018. It lists Dektite Shingle Black EPDM No. 3 (model DSR103B) for pipe sizes 0 in. to 6 in. The certificate covers roof pipe flashing for smooth-walled metallic and plastic piping, cable or conduit on roofs covered with asphalt shingles, clay tiles, concrete tiles, slate tiles, metal roofing systems, wood shakes and wood shingles. It states compliance with the Uniform Plumbing Code and International Plumbing Code, and with IAPMO PS 64-2012ae1.
SHR retrofit installation
The SHR was developed for reroofing around existing electrical lines or a gas line, where an ordinary pipe flashing cannot be dropped over the pipe without disconnecting it. The flashing is Australian made and wraps around the pipe, closed with metal clips instead of a zipper. The steps run in this order:
- Choose the size that fits the pipe, from 0 in. to 6 in. Sizes are marked on the flashing.
- Cut the flashing hole at the proper diameter along the marked cutting grooves. Tin snips are recommended.
- Cut along the vertical seam to open the flashing. The seam is left uncut at the factory so the flashing can also be used as a conventional pipe flashing.
- Caulk the underside of the flashing. With the aluminum base, many roofers do not do this.
- Set the seam on the downside and wrap the flashing around the pipe. The upper side goes under the shingles and the lower side goes over the shingles.
- Caulk the seam and set the clips evenly along it.
- Caulk around the joint with the pipe.
Warranty
All three versions carry a 20 year warranty.
