Joint and fastening
The common lock joint of the series is part of the IW-40A. It minimizes moisture intrusion, hides the fasteners and lets IW-40A panels be combined with other IW profiles. A factory-installed sealant in the side joint of the IW-40A helps minimize water intrusion.
Face sheet options
The IW-40A uses the series face sheet: coil-coated steel to ASTM A 755/A 755M on G90 zinc-coated base metal. Nominal uncoated thickness options run from 0.030 inch (22 gage) to 0.047 inch (18 gage). Sheet is non-directional embossed or unembossed.
Test performance
Installed over insulated composite backup panels, the IW Series assembly is rated at a maximum 0.06 cfm/sq. ft. (0.3 L/s per sq. m) air infiltration per ASTM E 283 at 1.57 lb/sq. ft. (75 Pa), with no uncontrolled water penetration per ASTM E 331 at 6.24 lb/sq. ft. (299 Pa), on a test panel of at least 10 by 10 feet that includes side joints. Wall panel assemblies are limited to L/180 deflection under scheduled wind pressure. The load span table for the IW-40A is published as a separate file.
Load span and specification
The IW-40A data are given under 2012 MasterFormat Section 07 42 13.19, with load span tables based on Allowable Stress Design (ASD). ASCE 7-10 (LRFD) loads are converted to ASD combinations using section 2.4.1 of ASCE 7-10. Where foam plastic insulation is part of the wall system, the system is tested by the foam plastic supplier in accordance with NFPA-285.
