BLAZER Hex Washer Head Self-Drilling Screws
BLAZER hex washer head self-drilling screws drill and tap steel in one operation. The hex washer head is the most popular drive system and keeps the screw stable during installation. Sizes run from #8 to 5/16 diameter, with drill points DP1 through DP5. The 1/4-14 DP1 VRT carries a patented design.
Screws are available with TRI-SEAL long life coating, rated at 1,000 hours of salt spray with no red rust. All sizes are available with a Bond-Seal washer. They suit exposed-fastener panels fixed to steel, as in metal roof replacement with exposed-fastener panels. Screws are made to SAEJ78, ASME B18.6.4 and AISI TS-4-02, and conform to ICC-ES AC118 acceptance criteria for tapping screw fasteners.

Choosing the drill point and length
- Determine the screw drill point type. Add up the total thickness that will be drilled by the screw. Select the drill point (DP) type and screw size on the drilling and tapping thickness chart.
- Determine the screw length. Measure from the top surface of the material being fastened to the underside of the metal that will be drilled and tapped, allowing for any void or insulation. This is the attachment thickness.
- Select a screw length where the attachment thickness is less than or equal to the load bearing length.
At least three full threads extend beyond the material being fastened.
