Butyl Tape-Seal

Butyl Tape-Seal is an extruded butyl tape rolled and cut to specific lengths on silicone-backed release paper. It was designed for the metal building industry and is formulated for metal roof and wall panels. It adheres to clean, dry painted metal, Galvalume, Kynar and aluminized metal, and it does not harden, bleed or stain.

With pressure, the tape fills minor irregularities in the surface and seals the joints. It forms a barrier against water, moisture, dust and dirt. It is used around windows, doors, roof vents, stacks, access doors and other penetration points, and in metal roof repair and restoration sealing where panel joints and penetrations need a tape seal.

Where it is used

  • Around windows
  • Around doors
  • Around roof vents
  • Around stacks
  • Around access doors
  • Other penetration points
  • Metal roof and wall panels

Application

  1. Clean the surfaces of oil, dust, dirt and moisture. Light films of lubricant on unpainted metals do not adversely affect performance.
  2. At temperatures below 40°F, remove any condensation or frost first.
  3. Position the tape in the desired location and press it in place through the release paper.
  4. When sealing applications that involve fasteners, position the tape on the entry side to prevent weather from entering through the fastener holes.
  5. Remove the release paper before assembly and fastening of the adjoining surface.
  6. Clean tools and equipment with mineral spirits.
