Overview

Presidential Solaris is a CertainTeed laminated asphalt shingle with sculptured tabs that give the appearance of wood shakes. It is made with granules of high solar reflectance, and all of its colors are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC). The colors can be used to comply with California Title 24 Part 6 requirements for cool steep slope roofing and the Green Building Standards Code of Los Angeles County for residential buildings.

It is built from two laminated layers and is designed to resist blow-off in winds up to 110 mph with normal installation and 130 mph with special installation.

Composition

Presidential Solaris has a fiber glass mat base. Its ceramic-coated mineral granules have high solar reflectance and sit in refined, water-resistant asphalt. The laminated pieces are adhered with asphaltic cement, and self-sealing adhesive is applied.

Solar reflectance data

The CRRC data are given by color. Aged solar reflectance, thermal emittance and Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) are listed below. Aged values are calculated using the California Title 24 SRI Calculation Worksheet.

  • Autumn Blend, CRRC product ID 0668-0127: aged solar reflectance 0.20, thermal emittance 0.93, SRI 21.
  • Charcoal Black, 0668-0132: 0.19, 0.94, SRI 20.
  • Country Gray, 0668-0128: 0.21, 0.92, SRI 21.
  • Shadow Gray, 0668-0134: 0.19, 0.94, SRI 20.

Dimensions

  • Overall dimensions: 14 1/4 inches by 40 inches.
  • Weather exposure: 4 inches.
  • Shingles per square: 90.
  • Approximate weight per square: 350 pounds.

Slope limits

Presidential Solaris is used on slopes of 2 inches per foot or greater. On 2:12 to under 4:12 slopes needs extra underlayment. At eaves prone to ice backup, Vycor or WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment, or its equivalent, is applied. Above 21 inches per foot, Presidential Solaris takes nine nails and spots of roofing cement under every tab.
