What INSULROCK is and where it is used
INSULROCK is a fire-rated insulated metal panel from Green Span Profiles. It is used on insulated metal panel roofs and walls where a rated assembly is needed. The panel use is hourly fire rated exterior wall, partition wall, liner wall and ceiling.
The panel has a structural mineral wool core between two embossed metal skins. Both the exterior and the interior skin carry an embossed texture.
Fire ratings are tied to thickness. Hourly fire-rating certifications are based on the test method and acceptance criteria in ANSI/UL 263 (ASTM E119), Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials.
Sizes, lengths and thicknesses
The coverage width is 47.375-inch. Panels are made in six thicknesses. Length runs from a minimum of 8'-0" to a maximum of 30'-0". Lengths over 30'-0" are by inquiry.
- Coverage width: 47.375-inch
- Thickness: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12-inch
- Minimum length: 8'-0"
- Maximum length: 30'-0"
- Over 30'-0": inquire
Panel weight rises with thickness. The 4-inch panel weighs 4.6 psf. The 5-inch panel weighs 5.3 psf and the 6-inch panel weighs 6.0 psf. The 8-inch panel weighs 7.5 psf, the 10-inch panel 8.9 psf and the 12-inch panel 10.3 psf.
The 4-inch panel is the thinnest version and the 12-inch panel is the thickest. Six thicknesses cover the range from 4 to 12-inch in steps of 1 or 2 inches: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12. Every thickness shares the same 47.375-inch coverage width, so panel layout across a wall does not change with thickness.

Skins, substrates and finishes
The exterior skin comes in 26 or 24 gauge. The interior skin is 26 gauge. Both skins can be Galvalume or stainless steel.
Exterior finish options and interior finish options differ by one item. PVDF is offered on the exterior only.
- Exterior finish: Polyester, Siliconized Polyester, PVDF, Plastisol (PVC)
- Interior finish: Polyester, Siliconized Polyester, Plastisol (PVC)
- Exterior gauge: 26, 24
- Interior gauge: 26
- Exterior substrate: Galvalume, Stainless Steel
- Interior substrate: Galvalume, Stainless Steel
- Exterior texture: Embossed
- Interior texture: Embossed
Galvalume and stainless steel are offered for both skins. Polyester, Siliconized Polyester and Plastisol (PVC) are offered on both faces. PVDF is the one finish that applies to the exterior face only. The 24 gauge option applies to the exterior skin only.
Joint, spline and core
Panels join with a double tongue-and-groove joint with spline. The spline is fiber-reinforced cement board. It measures 1/2" x 2-3/4" x 8' long.
The core is ROXUL ConRock L structural mineral wool. The core has a K-factor of 0.277 Btu-in/hr-ft2-F° at 40° F mean temperature, which equals R-3.61 per inch.
The panel cross-section and the panel sidelap are both detailed on the technical data sheet. The sidelap shows the spline set between the two tongue-and-groove edges.
The joint is a double tongue-and-groove. The spline sits between adjoining panels at the joint. Each spline length is 8' long, 2-3/4" wide and 1/2" thick.
Fire rating and thermal performance by thickness
Fire rating is 1 hour at 4-inch thickness and 2 hours at 5-inch. The 6, 8, 10 and 12-inch panels are all rated 3 hours.
- 4-inch: 1 hour, U-factor 0.069, R-factor 14.49
- 5-inch: 2 hours, U-factor 0.055, R-factor 18.18
- 6-inch: 3 hours, U-factor 0.046, R-factor 21.74
- 8-inch: 3 hours, U-factor 0.035, R-factor 28.57
- 10-inch: 3 hours, U-factor 0.028, R-factor 35.71
- 12-inch: 3 hours, U-factor 0.023, R-factor 43.48
U-factor is in BTU / hr • ft2 • F°. R-factor is in hr • ft2 • F° / BTU. U-factor falls and R-factor rises as the panel gets thicker.
Weight, fire rating and thermal values all appear in one table for the six thicknesses. The 4-inch panel carries the highest U-factor at 0.069. The 12-inch panel carries the lowest U-factor at 0.023.
Uniform load table
The load table gives values for each thickness at uniform loads of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 psf. Values fall as the uniform load rises, and they rise with panel thickness.
- 4-inch: 22.2, 15.7, 12.8, 11.1, 9.9, 8.2, 6.2
- 5-inch: 24.8, 17.5, 14.2, 12.4, 10.6, 9.1, 6.8
- 6-inch: 27.3, 19.3, 15.7, 13.6, 12.1, 10.1, 7.6
- 8-inch: 31.5, 22.3, 18.2, 15.8, 14.0, 11.6, 8.7
- 10-inch: 35.2, 24.9, 20.3, 17.6, 15.6, 13.0, 9.8
- 12-inch: 38.6, 27.3, 22.3, 19.3, 17.1, 14.2, 10.7
At 5 psf the 4-inch panel reads 22.2 and the 12-inch panel reads 38.6. The heaviest load column, 40 psf, runs from 6.2 for the 4-inch panel up to 10.7 for the 12-inch panel.
