QuadCore KarrierPanel

QuadCore KarrierPanel is a universal barrier wall panel in the Kingspan Insulated Panel Systems range. It combines a KS Series insulated metal panel with an integrated Kingspan-designed rail, the KarrierRail, and its core is QuadCore Technology. The panel is the barrier layer behind an exterior rainscreen cladding of non-combustible brick or metal facades. The rail carries loads from the facade to the structural supports behind the panel.

Recorded applications are barrier wall assemblies, commercial walls, facade support, industrial walls and new construction. The panel is installed vertically or horizontally.

The published specification for QuadCore KarrierPanel is as follows.

• Insulation core: QuadCore Technology.
• Exterior profile: Shadowline or flat. Interior profile: Shadowline.
• Embossing: stucco on both faces, with non-embossed as an option.
• Gauge: 26, 24 or 22 ga on the exterior face and 26, 24 or 22 ga on the interior face.
• Width: 24, 30, 36, 40 or 42 inches of coverage.
• Thickness: 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 or 6 inches, with 8 inches also published.
• Length: 8 feet to 53 feet.
• Reveal: 3/8 inch to accommodate the rail.
• Orientation: vertical or horizontal.
• Post fabrication: not applicable.
• R-value: about 8 per inch at a 75°F mean temperature and about 9 per inch at a 35°F mean temperature, both to ASTM C518.

The KarrierRail is a rail designed by Kingspan to integrate with the KS Series panel joint. The rail transmits positive loads from multiple facades to the structural supports behind the insulated panels. Through-fasteners secure the exposed rail edge and handle negative loads. The rail does not penetrate the air vapor barrier, and several types of rainscreen can be attached to it.

• Standard configuration: 16 gauge G90 galvanized steel, 50 KSI.
• Bearing surface: 1, 2 or 3 inches.
• Length: available in various lengths.
• Installation: the rail is placed during normal panel installation and secured with standard panel fasteners in one step.

Accessories in the CSI guide specification section (07 42 13, Metal Wall Panels) are KarrierRails, hat channel, fasteners, flashings and perimeter trim. The panel is a steel faced QuadCore (polyisocyanurate) metal wall panel.

Published R-values to ASTM C518, at 35°F and at 75°F, by panel thickness:

• 2 inches: R-18 and R-16.
• 2.5 inches: R-22.5 and R-20.
• 3 inches: R-27 and R-24.
• 4 inches: R-36 and R-32.
• 5 inches: R-45 and R-40.
• 6 inches: R-54 and R-48.

Exterior rainscreen claddings are installed over KarrierPanel. The panel has been evaluated and tested to US and Canadian standards with a non-combustible cladding. Facades and attachments are evaluated as an assembly, and assembly testing is available with select facades. Any change from the approved non-combustible rainscreen product is a matter for the authority having jurisdiction.

• ASTM E84: flame spread 25 or less, smoke developed 90 or less.
• CAN/ULC-S102: flame spread 20, smoke developed 45, for the panel insulation core.
• CAN/ULC S127: flame spread under 500 for the foam core.
• CAN/ULC-S134: passed, the standard method of fire test of exterior wall assemblies. The result is assembly specific and applies to non-combustible outboard cladding only.
• CAN/ULC-S138: passed, the standard method of test for fire growth of insulated building panels in a full-scale room configuration.
• NFPA 268: passed, the standard test method for determining ignitability of exterior wall assemblies using a radiant heat energy source.
• Fatigue: cyclic test to positive and negative wind loading at plus or minus L/180 deflection. The panels exceeded 2 million alternate cycles without failure or damage.

Regional approvals printed for the panel are City of Houston Registration #710A, IAS AC473 certificates MB-267B and MB-277B (Shadowline and flat profiles only), and City of Los Angeles (LARR) CCRR 1074 and FB 3080.

The panel belongs to Kingspan's insulated wall and roof panel systems that hold UL GREENGUARD Gold certificate 86747-420, tested to UL 2818 - 2022.

The QuadCore 30-Year Thermal Warranty is available only on QuadCore-equipped panels. Under the warranty text, the foam R-value is warranted not to vary by more than 10 percent from the published average for thirty years from the date of sale.

KarrierPanel has its own installation guide and four CAD detail sets, each indexed by detail number.

• Horizontal KarrierPanel with a metal facade (KPH series): expanded and engaged panel joints, intermediate support, vertical joints including between studs, multi-story fire stopping details and assemblies, flush bases with or without extrusion, base at notched concrete, and base at overhang.
• Vertical KarrierRail with a horizontal metal facade (KPV series): expanded and engaged joints, intermediate support, multi-story fire stopping, flush base, notched concrete base, overhang bases, outside and inside corners, framed opening head, jamb and sill, and a stack joint.
• KarrierPanel with brick (2019): engaged panel joint with a brick tie, vertical joints with membrane in plan and section, base with membrane, base layering, a mending plate to base condition, outside corner, and framed opening header, header transition and jamb.
• Flat rail sets for vertical and horizontal installation are also on record.

Construction details are also grouped as metal facade details (base at overhang, intermediate support, parapet, base, low eave) and brick details (base, engaged panel joint, framed opening, parapet). KarrierPanel is one of the insulated metal panel wall products in the Kingspan range.
