Overview

QuadCore KS Granitstone is a textured insulated metal wall panel in the Kingspan KS Series. The exterior face is a flat panel with the Granitstone finish, or the Granitstone Quartz finish, giving a stucco-like masonry appearance, and the interior face is Shadowline. The core is QuadCore. The panel is used on commercial and industrial walls, as a whole elevation or as an architectural accent, and it can be run vertically or horizontally.

Granitstone panels are suitable for new and retrofit work across the cold storage, commercial and industrial market sectors. They are made to combine with other compatible KS Series panels, and the Granitstone wall series is covered by the same KS Series installation guide as the Optimo, Azteco, Mini-Wave, Mini Micro-Rib, Micro-Rib, Shadowline and Vektra panels.

Panel specification

  • Insulation core: QuadCore Technology
  • Exterior profile: flat with the Granitstone finish, or Granitstone Quartz
  • Interior profile: Shadowline
  • Embossing: stucco on the exterior; stucco or non-embossed on the interior
  • Gauge: 24 or 22 ga exterior; 26, 24 or 22 ga interior
  • Width: 24, 30, 36 or 42 inches
  • Thickness: 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 or 6 inches
  • Length: 8 feet to 30 feet
  • Orientation: vertical or horizontal
  • Standard reveal: 1/8 inch or 3/8 inch vertical; 3/8 inch horizontal
  • Post fabrication: transverse bends are an option, with manufacturing limitations

The maximum length is 30 feet, against 53 feet for KS Shadowline.

Horizontally or vertically applied, Granitstone with QuadCore uses a patented double seal integrated joint. The standard reveal is 1/8 inch for vertical applications and 3/8 inch for horizontal applications.

The panels are foamed in place. Factory-caulked side joints can be added to reduce erection labor, and they are not available for cold storage applications.

Thermal performance

The core is rated 8 per inch at a 75 degree F mean temperature and 9 per inch at 35 degrees F, per ASTM C518. Panel values are given in the table below.

  • 2 inches: R-18 at 35 degrees F, R-16 at 75 degrees F
  • 2.5 inches: R-22.5 and R-20
  • 3 inches: R-27 and R-24
  • 4 inches: R-36 and R-32
  • 5 inches: R-45 and R-40
  • 6 inches: R-54 and R-48

Weight

Panels with a 26 ga exterior and 26 ga interior weigh 2.55 lb/sq ft at 2 inches and 3.33 lb/sq ft at 6 inches. The full set of published combinations follows.

  • 26 ga exterior with 26 ga interior: 2.55 lb/sq ft at 2 inches, 2.66 at 2.5 inches, 2.75 at 3 inches, 2.95 at 4 inches, 3.14 at 5 inches and 3.33 at 6 inches
  • 24 ga exterior with 26 ga interior: 2.74, 2.85, 2.94, 3.14, 3.33 and 3.51
  • 24 ga on both faces: 2.91, 3.03, 3.11, 3.31, 3.51 and 3.69
  • 22 ga exterior with 26 ga interior: 3.02, 3.13, 3.22, 3.42, 3.61 and 3.79
  • 22 ga exterior with 24 ga interior: 3.19, 3.31, 3.39, 3.59, 3.78 and 3.97
  • 22 ga on both faces: 3.46, 3.57, 3.66, 3.86, 4.05 and 4.23

Fire and structural testing

  • FM 4880: Class 1 fire rating of building panels or interior finish materials
  • FM 4882: smoke sensitive occupancies, interior and exterior use
  • ASTM E84: flame spread 25 or less
  • FM 4881: passed
  • ASTM E72: vacuum chamber tested

The FM and E84 ratings were obtained on panels of 2 to 6 inches thick and 24 to 42 inches wide, with a minimum panel length of 8 feet.

Span data

The KS Series load and span tables cover 42 inch wide panels on steel supports of 16 ga, 14 ga, 12 ga and 1/4 inch steel plate. For each support type the tables run through the facer pairings 26/26, 24/26, 24/24, 22/26, 22/24 and 22/22, where the first number is the exterior gauge. Those tables give the allowable load for each thickness and span condition.

Colors

The coating systems offered for the KS Series include Sherwin-Williams Fluropon solid PVDF colors. Their reflectance, emissivity and SRI values are as follows.

  • Category 1: Regal White (SR 0.70, E 0.86, SRI 85), Ascot White (0.69, 0.85, 83), Bone White (0.69, 0.84, 83), Driftwood (0.45, 0.86, 50), Sandstone (0.61, 0.85, 72) and Surrey Beige (0.48, 0.86, 54)
  • Category 2: Dove Gray, Zinc Gray, Rawhide, Spartan Bronze, Redwood, Slate Blue, Parchment, Rock Tan and Taupestone
  • Category 3: Colonial Red, Evergreen, Regal Blue and Tahoe Blue

Fluropon contains 70 percent PVDF resins. Custom color matching is available for individual building designs.

Installation drawings

The KS Series vertical and horizontal CAD sets include expanded and engaged panel joints, intermediate supports, and joints fastened with Leo-Klip or Leo-Klip+ clips. They also cover base details at flush, overhang, J-base and notched concrete conditions, with extrusion or trim, along with matching masonry (CMU) details, outside and inside corners in flat trim, profiled trim, extrusion and factory-folded forms, endwall terminations, framed openings with drip-edge head, one-piece and two-piece trim, stack joints and end-of-panel conditions.

Break-form trims are drawn at 10 foot lengths in 26, 24 or 22 ga, with stucco embossed, Azteco embossed or smooth embossment and Kynar or MP/SMP finishes. The base flashing is panel thickness plus 1/4 inch deep, from 2 1/4 inches at a 2 inch panel to 6 1/4 inches at 6 inches.

The KS Series installation guide deals with inspection on delivery, panel handling, storage on site, handling of accessories, removal of the protective film, structural steel framing, panel cutting and sealant placement.

Cleaning and warranty

Most pressure washers are pre-set to 1,000 psi or higher, and full force could damage the finish and dislodge gaskets, caulking or sealant beads. The method is a fan-type spray tip of at least 45 degrees held 6 feet (1.8 m) or more from the wall, with a test in an inconspicuous area first.

The panel carries the QuadCore 30-year limited thermal warranty, which holds foam R-value to within 10 percent of the published average on the date of sale for products bought on or after June 1, 2018. Granitstone is one of the textured metal wall panel profiles in Kingspan's insulated wall range.
