Overview
CF Flute is a ribbed Metl-Span insulated metal wall panel with bold vertical reveals. The reveals are 1 in. wide and 3/8 in. deep. It has a PUR foam core and is used as an exterior wall panel on commercial, institutional and industrial buildings in the United States.
Listed uses include cold storage (dry goods warehouses, cooler and freezer buildings and food processing facilities), other temperature-controlled environments, airplane hangars, municipal facilities and equipment maintenance buildings.
The panel can be combined with other Metl-Span joint profiles and is part of the insulated metal wall panels CF range. Its coverage width of 42 in. is the CF-42 size.

Profile and faces
The exterior profile has 1 in. wide, nominally 3/8 in. deep longitudinal reveals at 8.4 in. on center, embossed. The exterior face is G-90 galvanized or AZ-50 coated steel in 26, 24 or 22 gauge.
The interior is Mesa (1/8 in.) or Light Mesa (1/16 in.), embossed or unembossed, in the same steels or 304 or 316 stainless in 26, 24 or 22 gauge; 22 gauge is not available in stainless. The stainless is USDA compliant for wash-down areas.
Finishes and colors
Coating options on the faces are Fluropon, Fluropon Premier, Fluropon Classic, Flurothane, Flurothane Coastal, WeatherXL and Igloo White Polyester. Displayed colors on the Metl-Span color chart are approximate.
Striations, color shift, shade variation and longitudinal patterning are inherent in metallic finishes. Between the two Light Stone options, Tuff Cote and Standard SP do not match.
Core and joint
The core is foamed-in-place zero ozone depletion potential Class 1 PUR foam. The joint is an offset double tongue-and-groove with an extended metal shelf for positive face fastening. Concealed clips are used and eliminate thermal short circuits.
Thermal values
The k-factor is 0.114 at 35°F mean core. Values for 42 in. width:
- 2 in.: U 0.060, R 17.5
- 2-1/2 in.: U 0.047, R 21.9
- 3 in.: U 0.039, R 26.2
- 4 in.: U 0.029, R 35.0
- 5 in.: U 0.023, R 43.7
- 6 in.: U 0.020, R 52.5
- 8 in.: U 0.015, R 70.0
Test results
- ASTM E84: flame spread under 25, smoke developed under 450
- ASTM E119: one hour with two layers of Type X gypsum
- FM 4880 Class 1; exterior wall requires FM 4881
- NFPA 285-19 and NFPA 286 met
- CAN/ULC S101, S102, S134, S138 met
- ASTM E283 under 0.01 cfm/ft² at 20 psf
- ASTM E331 no uncontrolled leakage at 20 psf
Regional approvals
Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance and State of Florida approval apply, but testing is not available in 8 in. thickness.
Load data, accessories and details
Span tables for loads are on an Allowable Stress Design (ASD) basis, with section 2.4.1 of ASCE 7-10 giving the ASD load combinations for LRFD loads. Thermal bow deflection is not included in the tables and can reduce allowable spans, so heavier 24 or 22 gauge facings may be needed. Panel skins must be captured at both ends by members designed for a 5 psf interior pressure. The FM Global requirements are given in their own link. MasterFormat 2012 section 07 42 13.19 is the guide specification section.
Listed hardware includes the V6 X-Span Clip and V6 X-Span Edge Trim, extended trim leg, drip edge, extruded base, sill and corner trims, and gasket and wet seal vertical joint options.
