What the Universal RoofBoot is

The Universal RoofBoot is a round flexible sleeve pipe flashing made by Marco Industries. The flexible round base forms a seal on all types of roofing surfaces, including metal, plastic and tile. It fits almost any panel configuration and roof pitch, regardless of the pipe location.

The boot belongs to the pipe flashings used when restoring and repairing metal roofs, alongside sealants and fasteners. The sleeve absorbs vibration and pipe movement caused by expansion and contraction. It carries a 20-year warranty.

Marco sells the boot as part of the Weather-Tite System, together with Weather-Tite Metal Roof Sealant and fasteners. The flashing products are made of EPDM or silicone.

Sizes and pipe ranges

The Universal RoofBoot comes in ten sizes: Mini and numbers 1 through 9. Each size has its own pipe range, base width and overall height. The pipe range is the span of pipe diameters the sleeve fits after trimming.

  • Mini: pipe range 0" - 3/4" (0-19mm), base 4" (101mm)
  • #1: pipe range 1/4" - 2 1/2" (6-63mm), base 3 1/4" (82mm)
  • #2: pipe range 1 3/4" - 3" (44-76mm), base 6 1/4" (158mm)
  • #3: pipe range 1/4" - 5" (6-127mm), base 7 3/4" (196mm)
  • #4: pipe range 3" - 6 1/4" (76-158mm), base 9 1/4" (234mm)
  • #5: pipe range 4 1/4" - 7 3/4" (107-196mm), base 10 1/2" (266mm)
  • #6: pipe range 5" - 9" (127-228mm), base 13" (330mm)
  • #7: pipe range 6" - 11" (152-279mm), base 14 1/2" (368mm)
  • #8: pipe range 7" - 13" (177-330mm), base 16 1/2" (412mm)
  • #9: pipe range 9" - 19" (228-482mm), base 25 1/4" (641mm)

The Mini fits pipes up to 3/4" (19mm). The number 9 fits pipes from 9" (228mm) up to 19" (482mm).

Top opening and overall height

Each size has a set overall height and, on most sizes, a set top opening before trimming. The Mini, number 1 and number 3 have a closed top. The other sizes have an opening in the top of the sleeve.

  • Mini: top opening closed, overall height 1 1/2" (38mm)
  • #1: top opening closed, overall height 3 1/4" (82mm)
  • #2: top opening 1 1/4" (31mm), overall height 4" (101mm)
  • #3: top opening closed, overall height 4" (101mm)
  • #4: top opening 2 1/4" (57mm), overall height 4 3/4" (120mm)
  • #5: top opening 3 1/2" (88mm), overall height 4 1/4" (107mm)
  • #6: top opening 5" (127mm), overall height 6" (152mm)
  • #7: top opening 5 1/2" (139mm), overall height 5 1/2" (139mm)
  • #8: top opening 6" (152mm), overall height 6" (152mm)
  • #9: top opening 7 3/4" (196mm), overall height 9" (228mm)

The number 6 is 6" (152mm) high with a 13" (330mm) base. The number 9 is 9" (228mm) high with a 25 1/4" (641mm) base. The number 1 has a base of 3 1/4" (82mm), the smallest base of the numbered sizes.

Materials and colors

The sleeves come in EPDM and silicone. Both are compounded for resistance to weathering from ozone and ultraviolet light.

  • EPDM in black or gray
  • Silicone in red or gray
  • Custom colors on request

The custom color range is Dark Gray, Gray, Black, Light Green, Terra Cotta, Light Blue, Dark Green, Bright Red, White, Brown, Dark Blue, Copper and Tan. Dark Gray, Copper and Tan are marked for availability by call.

Master Flash RoofBoots exclusively use virgin EPDM with no regrind.

Performance figures

Ratings differ between EPDM and red silicone (RS).

  • Ozone resistance: 70 hrs @ 500pphm for EPDM and red silicone
  • High temperature, intermittent: +135°C/+275°F for EPDM, +260°C/+500°F for red silicone
  • High temperature, continuous: +100°C/+212°F for EPDM, +225°C/+437°F for red silicone
  • Low temperature: -55°C/-67°F for EPDM, -74°C/-101°F for red silicone
  • Compression set: 25% for EPDM, 50% for red silicone

Silicone carries the higher heat ratings at both intermittent and continuous exposure. It also carries the lower cold rating. EPDM has the lower compression set.

How the boot is installed

Installation takes three steps. A marked sleeve lets the installer cut the boot on site to the pipe diameter needed.

  1. Choose the pipe opening and trim the sleeve.
  2. Apply Marco Weather-Tite Metal Roof Sealant, slide the boot over the pipe and form to the roof profile.
  3. Secure to the roof with fasteners to complete the installation.

The sleeve is marked so each cut lines up with a pipe diameter. The flexible base is formed to the roof profile after the sealant goes on. Marco publishes an installation video and a roof pitch calculator at marcoindustries.com/roofboots.

What each version is for

The Mini, with a closed top and a 4" (101mm) base, serves pipes from 0" to 3/4".

The numbers 2 and 4 through 9 have top openings from 1 1/4" (31mm) to 7 3/4" (196mm). They serve pipes from 1 3/4" (44mm) up to 19" (482mm). The number 3 spans the widest range of the small sizes, 1/4" to 5" (6-127mm), on a 7 3/4" (196mm) base.

EPDM versions are rated to -55°C/-67°F and +100°C/+212°F continuous. Silicone versions are rated to +225°C/+437°F continuous. Marco makes related boots for other jobs: the Standard RoofBoot with a square flexible sleeve, retrofit boots in three sizes, extreme angle boots, and specialty boots for multi-flash, solar and multi-port needs.
