Overview
Menzies Plumbing Stack Flashing is an aluminum pipe flashing from Portals Plus, built from a tube that rises out of a round flange laid on the roof deck. The flange carries pre-drilled holes for fastening. All versions are listed to meet Canadian and U.S. standards by QAI and meet CSA B272 and IAPMO PS 64.
Four versions are covered here: Aluminum Flat - Welded, Aluminum Flat - Welded TPO, Spun Aluminum and Spun Aluminum TPO. The welded versions join an extruded tube to the flange by hot welding, while the spun versions are formed as one piece. The TPO versions carry a TPO Direct Weld coating on the flange so the membrane can be heat welded straight to the flashing on a TPO roofing system.
How the four versions differ
- Aluminum Flat - Welded: heavy aluminum extruded tube hot welded to a round flange. It is made for flat roofs and is available in all pitches by special order. A TPO Direct Weld version of the same stack is also offered.
- Aluminum Flat - Welded TPO: the same welded construction with a TPO coating, sold under separate part numbers carrying a TPO suffix.
- Spun Aluminum: one-piece construction, suitable for flat roof only.
- Spun Aluminum TPO: the spun stack with an aluminum body that is TPO coated. It is an alternative to the welded stack and is interchangeable with it on a flat roof. Spun is not available in pitched.
Custom lengths and diameters are available by special order on the welded stacks.

Sizes, weights and part numbers
The welded stack comes in nominal sizes of 1 1/4 in. (32 mm), 1 1/2 in. (38 mm), 2 in. (51 mm), 3 in. (76 mm), 4 in. (102 mm), 5 in. (127 mm), 6 in. (152 mm), 7 in. (178 mm) and 8 in. (203 mm). Stacks from 1 1/4 in. to 6 in. are listed in 12-, 18- and 24-in. heights (305, 457 and 610 mm); the 7-in. and 8-in. sizes are listed in the 12-in. height only. Weights for the 12-in. height run from 0.85 lbs (1 1/4 in., part 400-3105) and 1.00 lbs (1 1/2 in. and 2 in., parts 400-3110 and 400-3115) to 1.35 lbs (3 in., 400-3120), 1.65 lbs (4 in., 400-3125), 2.20 lbs (5 in., 400-3130), 2.50 lbs (6 in., 400-3131), 4.00 lbs (7 in., 400-3132) and 4.20 lbs (8 in., 400-3133). The 18-in. and 24-in. heights carry suffixes -18 and -24 on the part number, for example 400-3125-24 for a 4 in. by 24 in. stack at 2.65 lbs.
The welded TPO stack is listed in 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in. sizes, with the 5-in. size a special order. Part numbers are 400-3105TPO, 400-3110TPO, 400-3115TPO, 400-3120TPO, 400-3125TPO and 400-3130TPO, at the same weights as the matching uncoated sizes (0.85 lbs for 1 1/4 in. up to 2.20 lbs for 5 in.). A separate range also applies: standard sizes to fit 1 1/4 in. through 6 in. OD. The welded TPO stack has a 4 in. roof flange and a 12 in. water height.
The spun stack comes in 1 1/2 in. (38 mm), 2 in. (51 mm), 3 in. (76 mm), 4 in. (102 mm) and 5 in. (127 mm):
- 1 1/2 in.: 0.75 lbs, part 400-4310
- 2 in.: 0.80 lbs, part 400-4315
- 3 in.: 1.10 lbs, part 400-4320
- 4 in.: 1.30 lbs, part 400-4325
- 5 in.: 1.50 lbs, part 400-4330
The spun TPO version uses the same sizes with the parts 400-4310TPO through 400-4330TPO. A 12 in. height is typical for all sizes, and the 4 in. flange stays constant through all sizes.
Pipe fit for the spun TPO stack
Each spun TPO size fits the following pipe, with I/P meaning iron or plastic pipe:
- 400-4310TPO, 1 1/2 in.: fits 1 1/2 in. I/P and 2 in. copper.
- 400-4315TPO, 2 in.: fits 2 in. I/P.
- 400-4320TPO, 3 in.: fits 3 in. I/P and 3 in. copper.
- 400-4325TPO, 4 in.: fits 4 in. I/P and 4 in. copper.
- 400-4330TPO, 5 in.: fits 5 in. I/P.
Materials, standards and caps
The welded stack is made of heavy aluminum, with the extruded tube hot welded to a full round flange. The welded TPO stack has heavy aluminum welded construction, a 4 in. roof flange, a 12 in. water height and TPO Direct Weld coating on the roof flange.
Standards are the same across the versions: QAI listing to meet Canadian and U.S. standards, CSA B272 and IAPMO PS 64. The spun TPO stack meets CSA B272-93.
The welded TPO stack is compatible with Menzies Spun Aluminum Econo Caps and Vandalproof Caps. The spun stacks work with either Econo or Vandalproof aluminum caps.
Installation steps for the spun TPO stack
- Remove any debris or materials that may prevent the pipe flashing flange from laying flush against the deck.
- Lower the pipe flashing over the pipe, onto the roof deck, with the metal flange flush with the roof surface.
- Secure the flashing flange to the roof deck with a minimum of 4 round head fasteners into solid substrate. Fastening evenly spaced, 1 in. from the edge of the flange, is optimal. Before installing TPO, the roofing membrane manufacturer's instructions apply.
- Follow the TPO roofing system manufacturer's installation instructions for flashing TPO roofing membrane to the pipe flashing.
- Clean the TPO Direct Weld coated flange and the TPO membrane surfaces prior to heat welding.
- Heat weld the TPO membrane to the TPO Direct Weld coated flange, following the TPO membrane manufacturer's instructions.
- Seal the flashing opening to the pipe with an appropriate cap or storm collar and sealant.
- Adhere to the installation requirements set by the regulatory authorities for the region.
