What MaxLine is and where it is used
MaxLine is a Green Span Profiles insulated metal panel. It is the widest panel in the Green Span range, with a 45-inch coverage width. It is intended to maximize installation efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Like other insulated metal panel roofs and walls, it is a steel-faced sandwich with a foam core.
Three panel uses are listed: partition wall, liner wall and tee supported ceiling. The product page places MaxLine in commercial and industrial work and in low temperature and cold storage buildings.
The panel joins its neighbor with the Green-Lock side joint, an offset double tongue-and-groove. The joint allows accurate sealant placement and a high-performance vapor seal.
Versions and sizes
MaxLine comes in five thicknesses, one width and a long range of lengths.
- Coverage width: 45-inch
- Thickness: 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8-inch
- Length: 8'-0" to 75'-0"
- Exterior gauge: 26
- Interior gauge: 26
Each thickness is available with embossed or smooth texture on both the exterior and interior face. Each face takes a polyester, siliconized polyester or plastisol (PVC) finish.

Materials and construction
Both faces are Galvalume steel in 26 gauge. The exterior substrate and the interior substrate are the same.
The core is continuously poured-in-place polyisocyanurate insulating foam. Apparent density of the foam is 2.25-pcf. Open cell content is at least 90% closed cells.
Foam core test results:
- Shear strength: 16-psi (ASTM C273)
- Compressive strength: 18-psi (ASTM D1621)
- Tensile strength: 21-psi (ASTM D1623)
Finish options for each face are polyester, siliconized polyester and plastisol (PVC), with embossed or smooth texture.
Insulation values
The nominal R-value is R-8 per inch of thickness. Thermal transmission was tested to ASTM C518. K-factor is 0.139 BTU-in/hr-ft2-F° at 75° mean and 0.129 BTU-in/hr-ft2-F° at 35° mean.
R-values by panel thickness at 75° mean and 35° mean:
- 3-inch: 22.45 and 24.10
- 4-inch: 29.65 and 31.85
- 5-inch: 36.85 and 39.60
- 6-inch: 44.05 and 47.35
- 8-inch: 51.25 and 55.10
These values include air films on each side of the panel and were derived from ASTM C518 test results.
Air, water and fire performance
Air leakage measured 0.0011-cfm/sf at 20-psf (ASTM E283). Water penetration was zero at 20-psf (ASTM E331).
Surface burning characteristics under ASTM E84 are flame spread under 25 and smoke developed under 450. The panel is Class 1 fire rated under FM 4880, covering insulated wall and wall and roof/ceiling panels. FM 4881 for Class 1 exterior wall systems and the TAS 201 Florida Building Code impact test procedure are also listed for the panel.
The panel carries the FM Approved mark.
Durability testing
Bond strength was tested four ways.
- Fatigue endurance: 2,000,000 alternating cycles of L/180 deflection. No evidence of facer or liner delamination, fracture of foam core or permanent set.
- Freeze/heat cycle: twenty-one eight-hour temperature cycles from –20° F to 180° F. No evidence of delamination, blistering or permanent set.
- Humidity endurance: 1,200 hours of 93% humidity at a temperature of 158° F. No evidence of delamination, blistering or interface corrosion.
- Autoclave: exposure to 218° F and a pressure of 2-psig for 2½ hours. No evidence of facer or liner delamination.
Strength under load is tested to ASTM E72 and reported in load tables.
Panel weights
Weights for the 45-inch wide panel with 26 gauge facer and 26 gauge liner, in pounds per square foot:
- 3-inch: 2.27
- 4-inch: 2.48
- 5-inch: 2.69
- 6-inch: 2.90
- 8-inch: 3.32
Weights at 45-inch width for other facer/liner gauge pairs, in psf:
- 3-inch: 2.47 at 24/26, 2.78 at 22/26, 2.99 at 24/24, 3.29 at 22/22
- 4-inch: 2.68 at 24/26, 2.99 at 22/26, 3.19 at 24/24, 3.50 at 22/22
- 5-inch: 2.89 at 24/26, 3.20 at 22/26, 3.40 at 24/24, 3.71 at 22/22
- 6-inch: 3.10 at 24/26, 3.41 at 22/26, 3.61 at 24/24, 3.92 at 22/22
- 8-inch: 3.52 at 24/26, 3.83 at 22/26, 4.03 at 24/24, 4.34 at 22/22
Heavier facer and liner gauges raise the weight. The 3-inch panel at 45-inch width weighs 2.27 with 26/26 gauges and 3.29 with 22/22 gauges. The 8-inch panel weighs 3.32 with 26/26 gauges and 4.34 with 22/22 gauges.
Test methods used

- ASTM E283 for the rate of air leakage under specified pressure differences
- ASTM E331 for water penetration under uniform static air pressure difference
- ASTM C273 for shear properties of sandwich core materials
- ASTM D1621 for compressive properties of rigid cellular plastics
- ASTM D1622 for apparent density of rigid cellular plastics
- ASTM D1623 for tensile and tensile adhesion properties of rigid cellular plastics
- ASTM D6226 for open cell content of rigid cellular plastics
- ASTM E84 for surface burning characteristics of building materials

What each version is for
All five thicknesses serve the same three uses: partition wall, liner wall and tee supported ceiling. Thickness sets the R-value, from 22.45 at 3-inch to 51.25 at 8-inch at 75° mean.
The 3-inch panel is the lightest at 2.27 psf and the 8-inch panel is the heaviest at 3.32 psf. Embossed and smooth textures and the three finishes apply to every thickness.
The low temperature and cold storage use listed on the product page pairs with the 45-inch coverage, the Green-Lock vapor seal joint and the closed-cell foam core.
