Overview

Seal-Tite LT K-Style Gutter is an industrial gutter from Metal-Era's Seal-Tite family, manufactured to the drainage capacity and size ordered. It is furnished in lengths from 10 ft. to 20 ft., and custom lengths are available. The gutter adapts to optional drainage bars and to flow-through gravel stops.

Gutter straps are included with the product, and factory-fabricated accessories remove the need for field fabrication. Specially fabricated pieces can be made for a particular project. The gutter is a roof-edge component used in commercial gutter and drainage systems.

Two configurations are offered: the standard K-style gutter and the K-style gutter with a roof flange. The Seal-Tite LT external gutter bracket is a companion piece for the K-style version. Metal-Era also publishes a Seal-Tite LT half round gutter, which is a separate product.

Gutter sizes and profile dimensions

The K-style gutter is made in three sizes: 6 in., 7 in. and 8 in. Four profile dimensions are given for each size, lettered A to D:

  • 6-in. gutter: A 4 1/2 in., B 6 in., C 5 in., D 3 7/8 in.
  • 7-in. gutter: A 5 3/8 in., B 7 in., C 5 7/8 in., D 4 5/8 in.
  • 8-in. gutter: A 6 in., B 8 in., C 6 1/8 in., D 5 3/8 in.

Dimension B equals the nominal gutter size in each row. The gutter is ordered in linear feet of 10-ft. lengths and 20-ft. lengths, or in pieces at a stated length, together with the number of outside 90° miters, inside 90° miters, right and left endcaps, and expansion joints.

The roof flange version carries the same hanger, splice-plate, rivet and material notes as the standard version.

Materials and finishes

The gutter is manufactured in five materials:

  • 24-gauge galvanized steel
  • 22-gauge galvanized steel
  • .032-in. aluminum
  • .040-in. aluminum
  • .050-in. aluminum

The material choice affects how the pieces are joined. Steel in 24 and 22 gauge and aluminum in .032 in. and .040 in. need field-notched lap joints. The .050-in. aluminum is provided with 6-in.-wide splice plates.

Standard colors are coil-coated and carry an included 30-year Kynar 500 finish warranty. Custom post-coated Kynar 500 colors are available with an included 10-year Kynar 500 finish warranty. Anodized finishes carry a 5-year warranty. No warranty is available for coil-anodized finishing, and post-coat Class 1 batch anodizing is available with a 5-year warranty that can be raised to 10 years for an upcharge. Pricing for anodized finishes is handled through Metal-Era Technical Services.

Hangers, splice plates and fasteners

The gutter hangs from a hanger formed from .063-in. aluminum and spaced at 24 in. on center. The hanger carries holes for #10 x 1 1/2-in. stainless-steel fasteners, which are provided with the order.

Each shipment also includes the following jointing items:

  • 6-in. splice plates;
  • 1/8-in. stainless-steel pop rivets.

Unless otherwise noted, miters are fabricated with pop rivets and then factory sealed watertight. For Seal-Tite LT K-Style Gutter, welded accessories need a minimum material thickness of .050 in.

Gutter straps are designed to support larger volumes of water as well as extreme snow and icing conditions.

External gutter bracket

The Seal-Tite LT external gutter bracket is made for the K-style version and is wrapped to match the gutter ordered. It is formed from .125-in. by 1-in. galvanized steel or .125-in. by 1-in. stainless steel.

  • The bracket has a back leg cut to fit the back of the gutter and a bottom leg cut to fit the bottom of the gutter.
  • A return at the front measures 3/8 in. minimum to fit the gutter.
  • Two 5/16-in.-diameter holes are punched in the back leg.
  • The bend is shown with a 1 1/4-in. dimension, marked plus or minus.

Fabrication of the bracket proceeds only after a signed print approval is received. The bracket is ordered by the amount required.

Miters, endcaps and expansion joints

Outside and inside miters at 90°, and right-hand and left-hand endcaps, are listed on the order form. The left-hand endcap has its color side marked. Miters that are not 90° follow a separate print approval, number 11012-25392.

One expansion joint is made up of two endcaps, one outside cover plate and one top plate. The expansion joint appears on the standard K-style gutter order form; the roof flange form lists miters and endcaps only.

Wind warranty

On Seal-Tite LT K-Style Gutter, a 10-year, 90 mph wind warranty is available on orders that call for it. It covers repair or replacement of any portion of the roof edge system that has failed because of a defect in Metal-Era supplied materials, for a maximum of 10 years and 90 mph.

The warranty runs for ten years from the date of final acceptance and is issued by Metal-Era LLC to the building owner. Replacement or repair obligations over the life of the warranty are limited to the owner's original cost of the system. Both K-Style and Half Round Seal-Tite LT gutter systems are the warranted products, and all accessories must be manufactured by Metal-Era for the warranty to be valid.

  • The owner gives Metal-Era written notice within 30 days of discovering a failure.
  • The warranty does not apply where wind exceeds 90 mph or flying debris, airborne objects or natural disasters damage the system.
  • It does not apply where the wood nailer substrate or other approved attachment member separates from the building.
  • It does not apply to damage from negligence, accidents, misuse or abuse, or where metal work not furnished by Metal-Era is used in the system.
  • It does not apply where the system is not installed in strict accordance with Metal-Era's specifications and printed installation instructions.
