Overview

CF Tuff-Cast is a Metl-Span insulated metal wall panel with the look of finished precast concrete. It has a double tongue-and-groove joint and a polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam core, and it is coated with the Tuff Cote finish system, a hard aggregated fiber-reinforced polymer. It is used for commercial and industrial exterior walls in the United States. The page lists vertical or horizontal textures and a variety of colors.

Tuff-Cast shares its data sheet with CF Tuff Wall. It sits with other insulated metal wall panels in the manufacturer's concealed-fastener wall range.

Surface and finish

The Tuff Cote exterior texture is a hard aggregated, fiber-reinforced polymer coating applied at the factory over stucco-embossed steel. The finishes recorded are Applied Finishes and Igloo White.

The steel is G-90 galvanized and/or AZ-50 aluminum-zinc coated, in 24 and 22 gauge on the exterior and 26, 24 and 22 gauge on the interior. The interior profile is Light Mesa, nominally 1/16 in. deep.

Finishes and colors

  • Exterior texture: Tuff Cote finish system, a hard aggregated fiber-reinforced polymer coating applied at the factory
  • Finish options recorded: Applied Finishes and Igloo White
  • Metallic finishes can show color shift, shade variance, striations and longitudinal patterning
  • Light Stone in the Tuff Cote system does not match Light Stone in the Standard SP offering

Exterior profile by thickness

The 2, 2-1/2, 3 and 4 in. panels have a plain exterior with the Tuff Cote system. The 5 and 6 in. panels have a Mesa exterior profile nominally 1/8 in. deep.

Joint and attachment

The offset double tongue-and-groove joint has an extended metal shelf for positive face fastening and forms a barrier that is air, vapor and water resistant. The panels use concealed clips, which eliminate thermal short circuits. The V6 X-Span Clip is listed with the panel. A 10-year limited exterior finish warranty applies to the Tuff Cote finish.

Thermal data

The foam core has a k-factor of 0.112 BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F at 35°F mean core temperature (ASTM C518). Panel values for a 42 in. width follow.

  • 2 in.: 0.058 U, 17.9 R
  • 2-1/2 in.: 0.045 U, 22.4 R
  • 3 in.: 0.038 U, 26.9 R
  • 4 in.: 0.028 U, 35.9 R
  • 5 in.: 0.022 U, 44.8 R
  • 6 in.: 0.019 U, 53.8 R

Fire and building-code testing

In the United States the panel was tested to ASTM E84 (flame spread under 25, smoke developed under 450), ASTM E119 (one hour non-load bearing with two layers of Type X gypsum), NFPA 285-19 (assembly met the standard) and NFPA 286 (met IBC Section 803.1.2.1). It is FM 4880 Class 1 approved.

In Canada the listed results are CAN/ULC S101 (one hour non-load bearing with two layers of Type X gypsum; 10 minute stay-in-place), S102, S134 and S138.

Air, water and regional approval

Air leakage is below 0.04 cfm/ft² at 1.57 psf by ASTM E283 and after 2,000 pressure cycles by ASTM E2357. Water penetration testing to ASTM E331 showed no uncontrolled leakage at 6.24 psf for 2 hours. The panel has State of Florida approval, which excludes HVHZ.
