Identify Mueller AP Panel before requesting a replacement

Mueller AP Panel is the maker's named 24-inch-coverage metal roof sheet. Its low, repeated raised ribs create the long straight lines visible in Mueller's Silver Metallic AP roof photograph. AP is classed in Mueller's current roof and wall offering as an exposed-fastener roof system, even though its appearance resembles a standing-seam roof from a distance. That distinction matters when an owner asks for a replacement sheet: the formed section, lap edges, deck and fixing arrangement must be described as AP Panel rather than by appearance alone. The photograph helps identify the product family, while a section cut from the actual roof identifies the sheet that must be matched.

This record uses the AP Panel section printed on page 10 of Mueller's installation guide, whose back cover is marked M-APMANUAL-REV. 11/12. The manufacturer still lists AP Panel in its July 2026 Roof & Wall Profile Offering brochure. The later listing confirms the named product, installed coverage, nominal height, gauge and roof use; it does not supply a new full set of edge dimensions. Keep the November 2012 manual revision beside any newer order so the quoted angles and pan dimensions retain their date. A supplier may have AP tooling today, but a short sample fitted to a retained roof sheet establishes whether its present lap edges meet the older installation.

Read the 24-inch AP cross-section and its 58-degree callout

The dimensioned section on manual page 10 states 24 inches of installed coverage across two 12-inch modules. It marks a 1-inch rib height from the pan level to the top of the raised section. On the illustrated first full pan, the drawing labels 10 5/8 inches between the adjacent rib bases; a 1 1/8-inch span is separately marked across the illustrated central rib between two extension lines. A 58-degree angle is printed at the left web of the section. These are positions on Mueller's drawing, rather than measurements estimated from an aerial roof image. The July 2026 brochure independently repeats 24-inch coverage and 1-inch rise, while the more detailed pan, central-rib and angle callouts remain tied to the dated manual.

The 24-inch value is effective width after the side lap is assembled. It is not the flat coil width, the overall loose-sheet width or permission to substitute any other panel that covers two feet. Similarly, the 10 5/8-inch pan arrow describes the flat segment to which it is attached, not the entire space between the free sheet edges. The 58-degree symbol is drawn at a particular sloping web; the published section does not give a complete bend schedule, radii, return lengths, metal springback allowance or every terminal angle. The one-page ordering sheet condenses the printed values for a quote, while the full Mueller manual page remains the source for where each arrow lands.

Compare both AP side laps with the roof in place

The AP manual depicts overlap and underlap ribs at opposite edges. Its starting and ending panel instructions even describe trimming different ribs at the two gable conditions. Those construction details show why a loose panel must be oriented before it is measured: left and right cannot be swapped without changing the joint. Photograph the exposed weather face and both factory edges at a clean cut end, with a ruler lying in the same plane as the cross-section. Label which edge passes over the neighboring sheet, which lies below it and the direction in which the roof was laid. Preserve a full-width undamaged sample whenever possible so both ribs can be assessed together.

Measure the installed rib-to-rib pitch, rib height, pan flat, overall loose-sheet width and effective cover after two pieces are nested. Check the high points and valleys at several positions, because a bent or flattened repair offcut can misrepresent the original die shape. A rake-cut sheet can also lose its factory lip; choose a sample from a sound field location or mark that edge as field-cut. Give the fabricator the physical sample along with the manual's page 10 and the one-page ordering sheet. Ask for a short trial panel and fit it to the existing AP material on both sides before confirming lengths and quantities. A matching 24-inch cover and 1-inch rise alone cannot prove terminal-edge compatibility.

Place the AP sheet in its actual roof assembly

Mueller's July 2026 offering presents AP Panel as a 26-gauge roof product for installation over a solid substructure, with a 3:12 minimum roof slope. The manufacturer's current product page describes residential use and also identifies commercial applications. Its installation manual recommends a sound wood deck and shows the AP panel meeting eaves, gables, valleys, hips, ridges, walls and roof-pitch changes. An ordering inquiry should therefore include the deck condition and roof layout as well as the section shape. Record the measured slope, substrate, panel orientation, eave-to-ridge or end-lap run, penetrations and existing trim receivers. Those details determine what a useful replacement length and edge treatment actually are.

The AP manual's standard panel end-lap detail positions the upper sheet for a 12-inch overlap. That dimension concerns a lengthwise joint at a supported roof location, whereas the 24-inch cross-section value concerns side-to-side coverage. Do not confuse the two in a fabrication request. The manual also locates field cuts at valleys and gables and illustrates closures at several transitions. Mueller's current product information says panels are pre-cut square, with angle cuts made on site. Give the supplier finished square-cut lengths and identify any field trimming separately. Where a commercial roof needs a survey or replacement sequence, the built-up metal roof installation service can connect the profile sample with support, weathering and installation planning.

Give a metal supplier a usable AP Panel order pack

Start the metal inquiry with the Mueller AP manual revision, the July 2026 profile offering and this page's single-page dimensional PDF. State the printed 24-inch installed coverage, paired 12-inch rib modules, 1-inch rise, illustrated 10 5/8-inch pan, 1 1/8-inch span across the illustrated central rib and 58-degree web callout. Then add the measured roof sample with both edge folds intact. Mark on a roof-plane sketch every sheet to be replaced and number its position. Give the shop each run length, expected quantity, required roof-facing finish, color, substrate or coating, and the desired 26-gauge material if it is to follow the currently listed product. Keep the intended side-lap hand and weather face visible on the sample rather than relying on a text label alone.

Ask the shop whether it can supply Mueller AP directly, owns a compatible AP roll set, or would have to evaluate special forming. Request a cross-section of the material it proposes, including both terminal ribs, physical overall width, pan and rise, and its calculated cover after nesting. A small trial piece should be compared with the roof on both sides and against the gable, eave or ridge condition in which it will be installed. If the original roof has an earlier or later AP generation, record each observed difference against the November 2012 section instead of silently altering the published measurements. A successful quote identifies the actual forming route, sample-fit result, finished lengths and delivery requirements, not merely a nominal two-foot profile name.

Make a separate fiberglass or GRP AP-shaped inquiry

A translucent fiberglass replacement needs its own forming and support review. Dipcraft Manufacturing publishes fiberglass roof and skylight panels across many corrugation pitch ranges and invites requests to match an existing metal roof. It has a 12-to-12.99-inch pitch category, which makes it a reasonable contact for an AP-shaped feasibility inquiry. That category is not an approved Mueller AP fiberglass panel or proof that Dipcraft owns AP tooling. Send Dipcraft the full AP metal sample, the manual section and this page's one-page summary, identifying the 12-inch rib module, 1-inch rise, 58-degree printed web and both lap edges. State whether the sheet is intended as a rooflight or an opaque GRP weather sheet.

Ask for the actual formed fiberglass section, available laminate, nominal and finished thickness, light transmission or opacity, maximum length, support requirements and a short trial piece. The purchase request should describe the roof's solid substrate, 3:12-or-steeper slope, existing metal support and the locations where GRP will meet AP steel. Compare the proposed fiberglass sheet against the surviving metal on both sides at a trial joint, including crest height, pan contact, overlap direction and resulting cover. Keep the GRP quote separate from the five Texas metal-forming inquiries. The metal manual identifies the older steel cross-section; fiberglass material, fixing and weathering details need to come from the proposed GRP manufacturer for the actual roof use.

For a fiberglass match, request a profile review from Dipcraft Manufacturing custom fiberglass roof-panel inquiry.

Five Texas contacts for metal-sheet feasibility

Five geographically separated Texas businesses are useful contacts for a measured metal-sheet feasibility quote: Metal Warehouse in Sherman, Xtreme Metals near Flint and Tyler, Quality Metals in the San Antonio area, Lucid Metal Works in Houston, and All Precision Metals in El Paso. Their published formed-panel or metal-fabrication services justify an initial inquiry; this list does not establish that any holds Mueller AP rolls. Send the same AP manual page, current brochure, single-page dimensional summary, marked roof photographs and full-width sample to each. Specify quantities, lengths, finish, delivery area and which of the two AP side ribs will touch the retained roof material. Ask each contact whether it can obtain genuine Mueller AP, form a matching sheet or advise on a special run.

For a comparable answer, request the proposed section drawing, measured loose width, 24-inch target installed cover, rib height, pan and lap-edge shapes. Ask how the shop would verify the 58-degree web callout and whether it can provide a short sample before full production. A stock two-foot architectural panel may look similar on a roof yet fail to nest with the AP ribs or fit a closure at a gable. Record the shop's tooling route and the test-piece result in the building file. These contacts address formed metal only. Dipcraft is the separate route for a custom fiberglass sheet, and that inquiry needs its own formed-section and roof-assembly review before an order.

Preserve the dated AP profile for future sheet orders

Keep the AP manual with its printed November 2012 revision mark, the July 2026 Mueller offering, the one-page order sheet, and the accepted sample together. Add a roof sketch showing where the profile was taken, the panel's weather face, installation direction, overlying and underlying edges, measured cover and finished sheet lengths. Store photographs of both free edges with a scale and of a test piece seated against the retained roof. If a supplier later provides a revised AP drawing, file it under its own issue date. Keeping revisions distinct prevents a future repair team from treating one manufacturer's old pan and angle dimensions as an undated universal AP standard.

The AP photograph is useful for recognizing the narrow raised-rib roof appearance, but a distant roof image cannot describe the small joint bends. The original Mueller manual provides the detailed 58-degree and flat-width callouts; the current brochure confirms the named product remains offered and describes the modern roof application. The field sample ties both documents to the building's actual metal. Keep a fiberglass supplier's formed-section drawing and trial-lap result in the same record if a GRP sheet is commissioned. That compact archive lets a later owner send an exact, dated profile packet to a metal shop or fiberglass maker instead of starting with only a color photograph and a broad two-foot width.
