Overview
The Anchor-Tite Drip Edge is a snap-on drip edge from Metal-Era's Anchor-Tite family, made for single-ply roof systems. A low-profile roofing flange allows water to drain at drip edge conditions, and a patented extruded aluminum anchor bar terminates the EPDM, PVC or TPO membrane. Installation is non-stripped-in.
It is made in flat and pitched flange versions and in four face heights from 3 to 7 1/2 in. A lifetime, 215 mph Anchor-Tite Wind Warranty is available on it.
Flat and pitched flanges
Two versions are made: a flat roof flange and a pitched roof flange. The pitched roof flange is available for roofs up to a 4/12 pitch. Radius and specially fabricated products are also available.
The anchor bar, the non-curing sealant, the membrane, the drip edge cover and the fasteners at 12 in. on center are arranged the same way in both versions; the pitched version sits on a roof pitch of up to 4/12 and the flat version on a level flange.

Sizes and cover materials
Face heights are 3, 4 1/2, 6 and 7 1/2 in., in both flat and pitched versions, to accommodate multiple nailers and coverage requirements. The product numbers are ADE-30 (3 in.), ADE-45 (4 1/2 in.), ADE-60 (6 in.) and ADE-75 (7 1/2 in.).
Covers are manufactured in 22-gauge galvanized steel, 24-gauge galvanized steel and .040-in. aluminum. The substrate is wood, masonry or metal, and wood fasteners are provided where none is given.
Anchor bar, sealant and fasteners
The extruded aluminum anchor bar and the drip edge cover are both supplied in 12 ft. lengths. Fasteners are provided at 12 in. on center, and non-curing sealant is applied under the flange; the sealant is supplied by others. The cover holes are pre-punched, and the fastening holes are slotted to allow thermal movement of the materials and to place fasteners correctly.
Splice plates and fasteners are included with the product, and the cover is provided with lap joints. The splice plates are 3 1/2 in. wide, and a 1/2 in. space is left between anchor bars. When a roof is replaced, the anchor bar can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled without compromising its strength and appearance. The non-penetrating design needs no stripping-in or heat welding.
Fasteners and a driver bit are provided by the manufacturer. The cover is field cut where necessary with a fine tooth hacksaw, and the anchor bar is field cut as necessary.
Finishes and colors
For Anchor-Tite Drip Edge, ten express colors are offered: Dark Bronze, Bone White, Cityscape, Almond, Medium Bronze, Sandstone, Sierra Tan, Slate Gray, Stone White and Clear Anodized. A mill finish is also available, and custom colors are also offered.
Standard colors are coil-coated, and a 30-year Kynar 500 finish warranty is included on them. On Anchor-Tite Drip Edge, custom post-coated Kynar 500 colors include a 10-year finish warranty, and a 20-year warranty is available on request. Anodized finishes carry a 5-year warranty, with no warranty on coil anodizing and a 10-year option for post-coat Class 1 batch anodizing.
Wind testing and approvals
The drip edge is tested to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 to comply with the International Building Code, with test pressures up to 98 psf. It is Factory Mutual approved for wind uplift protection and Miami-Dade approved (No. 23-0912.08, 12/11/28) for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code.
The installation instructions (drawing 11110-43569, revision B, dated 09/09/24) carry the FM Approved mark.
Installation steps
The installation instructions are numbered in eight steps for the flat and pitched versions.
- Roof membrane. The membrane is positioned over the roof edge and down the outside face of the wall, covering the treated wood nailer(s) completely, with 1/2 in. of excess membrane. The outside edge of the treated wood nailer(s), minimum 2 x 4, is aligned flush with or extends slightly past the outermost edge of the wall.
- Anchor bar. Miters are laid on the deck with the outside face down. The aluminum anchor bar is clean and free of dirt or dust. A heavy 3/8 in. bead of non-curing sealant (by others) goes on the right angle intersection of the deck flange, along the full length of each miter anchor bar.
- Anchor bar miter splice plates. A 3/8 in. bead of non-curing sealant (by others) goes on the right angle intersection of the deck flange and on each end of the anchor bar miter. A 3 1/2 in. wide splice plate is slid halfway onto each end of the miter.
- Anchor bar miter. The roofing membrane is folded at corners. Miters are installed with the fasteners and driver bit provided by the manufacturer.
- Anchor bar. 12 ft. sections of anchor bar are applied with non-curing sealant, and sealant is also applied to the ends of the anchor bar. The anchor bar slides into the 3 1/2 in. wide splice plate with a 1/2 in. space between anchor bars, and is fastened at 12 in. on center with the provided fasteners. Installation continues with 12 ft. lengths of anchor bar and 3 1/2 in. splice plates.
- Fascia miter covers. The two-piece snap-on fascia miter cover is installed by hooking the cover with the 90° tab to the bottom of the anchor bar and rotating it into place.
- Fascia miter covers. The other half of the miter cover, without the 90° tab, is installed as in step 6.
- Fascia covers. 12 ft. fascia covers are positioned on top of the anchor bar and overlap the preceding cover by approximately 1 in. at the notches provided. Covers are installed from right to left as seen from the rooftop. With the fascia hooked to the bottom of the anchor bar, the cover is rotated into place, with pressure applied along the entire cover until it is fully engaged. The protective film is removed immediately.
Protective eye wear is worn by installers. Fasteners are not overdriven, because stripping can occur at high driver torque. The recommended driving tool is a 600 to 800 RPM electric drill; an impact type tool is not used.
Radius version
A radius version, the Anchor-Tite Radius Drip Edge, is FM approved and is made in the same four face heights as the standard product, with product numbers AFDE-30 (3 in.), AFDE-45 (4 1/2 in.), AFDE-60 (6 in.) and AFDE-75 (7 1/2 in.) for the flat roof flange. Its cover is made in 24-gauge galvanized steel or .040-in. aluminum.
The radius extruded anchor bar is rolled and provided in 6 ft. or 12 ft. lengths, depending on the radius condition, and the cover comes in 6 ft. lengths with a 1 in. lap notch. The radius is given either as the actual known radius in feet and inches or from field measurements taken on a 36 in. straight edge, with the rise measured at the 18 in. midpoint. Radius product is not required if the radius is over 100 ft. or if the rise is under 5/32 in. The minimum radius is 6 ft. and the maximum rise is 2 9/32 in. Fabrication proceeds only after receipt of a signed print approval.
Radius installation is covered on page 4 of the instructions in two steps: the anchor bar, then the fascia covers. The anchor bar is fastened to the wall at 12 in. on center, with a 1/2 in. space left between anchor bar sections, and the fascia covers follow the same right-to-left overlap of approximately 1 in. at the notches provided.
Miters and endcaps
Prefabricated miters and accessories remove the need for field fabrication. The quantities for this drip edge include outside and inside miters at 90° and right and left endcaps, with lineal feet counted in 12 ft. lengths. Miters at other angles have a separate print approval.
Wind warranty
For Anchor-Tite Drip Edge, the lifetime, 215 mph Anchor-Tite Wind Warranty is available on all Metal-Era manufactured Anchor-Tite products. It covers repair or replacement of any portion of the system that fails because of a defect in Metal-Era supplied materials, for the lifetime of the roof on which it was first installed.
