Overview
Anchor-Tite Extended Fascia is a metal fascia system from Metal-Era's Anchor-Tite family, made for roof edges where a tall face is needed to cover one or more wood nailers. The cover is supplied in 12-foot lengths and hooks onto a continuous cleat, then rotates up and over an extruded aluminum anchor bar that terminates the roof membrane at the edge. Face heights run from 8 1/2 in. to 13 in.
The anchor bar is covered by U.S. Patent 7,451,572. It is fastened through slotted holes, and the fascia cover goes on without stripping-in or heat welding of the membrane at the edge. When a roof is re-covered, the anchor bar can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled.
This page covers the two versions of the product: the fully adhered or mechanically attached single-ply version, and the built-up or modified version. Both share the same face heights, cover materials and anchor-bar construction, and differ in the membrane preparation at the edge. The Extended Fascia is a perimeter securement for roof edges that are not in a waterline; for an edge that sits in a waterline or needs drainage over the edge, Metal-Era names Anchor-Tite Canted Fascia and Anchor-Tite Drip Edge instead. It is one of the perimeter metal components used to finish low-slope roof assemblies with single-ply, built-up and modified bitumen membranes.
Versions and face heights
The single-ply version is for fully adhered or mechanically attached single-ply membranes. The built-up or modified version is for BUR and modified bitumen roof systems. Product identification numbers carry the version: single-ply covers use the prefix AEF, and built-up or modified covers use AEFM.
- 8 1/2 in. face height: AEF-85 (single-ply) or AEFM-85 (built-up or modified), with a 7 1/4 in. X dimension.
- 10 in. face height: AEF-100 or AEFM-100, with an 8 3/4 in. X dimension.
- 11 1/2 in. face height: AEF-115 or AEFM-115, with a 10 1/4 in. X dimension.
- 13 in. face height: AEF-130 or AEFM-130, with an 11 3/4 in. X dimension.
The face heights are sized to accommodate multiple nailers. Treated wood nailers must be at least 2 x 4, and the outside edge of the nailer is aligned flush with the outermost edge of the wall.

Cover materials and finishes
Fascia covers are manufactured in three materials:
- 22-gauge galvanized steel
- .050-in. aluminum
- .063-in. aluminum
Standard colors are coil-coated with Kynar 500 and carry a 30-year Kynar 500 finish warranty. For Anchor-Tite Extended Fascia, custom post-coated Kynar 500 colors include a 10-year finish warranty, and a 20-year warranty is available on request. On Anchor-Tite Extended Fascia, anodized finishes carry a 5-year warranty; coil anodized finishing has no warranty, and post-coat Class 1 batch anodizing can be raised from 5 years to 10 years for an upcharge. Anodized pricing is handled through Metal-Era Technical Services.
Protective plastic film on the covers is removed before each fascia section is installed.
Anchor bar, cleat and fasteners
The extruded aluminum anchor bar comes in 12-foot lengths with slotted holes at 12 in. on center. It is fastened with #10 x 2 in. stainless-steel wood and metal screws with washers, spaced 12 in. on center.
The continuous anchor cleat is 20-gauge galvanized steel, also in 12-foot lengths, with slotted holes at 24 in. on center. Masonry and wood fasteners of 1/4 x 1 1/4 in. (Tapcon) hold the cleat at 24 in. on center. The cover hooks onto the cleat along its lower edge.
Anchor bar splice plates are 3 1/2 in. wide with a 3-in. EPDM gasket, and a 3 1/2 in. splice plate is provided at every joint. A separate cover splice plate sits under the far end of each fascia cover section. The anchor bar must insert into the grooves of the anchor bar splice plate, and a gap is left between anchor bars at each splice.
The anchor bar, EPDM splice plates and fasteners ship with the product. The non-curing sealant is supplied by others. Fasteners and drive bits for the miter assemblies are also provided by Metal-Era.
Wind testing and approvals
The fascia is tested to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1, the roof-edge wind standard referenced by the International Building Code. The print approvals for both versions carry an ANSI/SPRI ES-1 design pressure of 176 psf.
The system is Factory Mutual approved for wind uplift protection. It also carries Miami-Dade approval 23-0912.08 (12/11/28) for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code, and displays the Miami-Dade County approved mark.
Miters, scuppers and radius work
Miters, scuppers and drainage accessories are factory fabricated, which removes field fabrication of these pieces. Each outside or inside 90-degree miter has a two-piece miter cover, one piece with a 90-degree tab and one without, and a pair of 14-in. anchor cleat pieces. Miters at angles other than 90 degrees follow a separate print approval and a measurement worksheet. Fascia extenders are also offered in lap joint and splice plate versions, with and without offset.
Scuppers are factory welded in six types, each with a 3-in.-wide roof flange:
- Downspout scuppers: DSA (tapered) and DSB (flat).
- Spillout scuppers: SSA (tapered) and SSB (flat), with the tube size specified on the order.
- Overflow scuppers: OSA (tapered) and OSB (flat).
The tapered types are used with a tapered edge strip and have the flange lowered 1 1/2 in. The flat types are used without a tapered edge strip and have the flange flush mounted with the roof. On the print approvals, the tapered option is a 1 1/2 in. drop.
Radius fascia is available in both versions. The radius is given either as the known radius in feet and inches or from field condition measurements, which use a 36-in. straight edge measured at its 18-in. midpoint, checked along the entire radius. On the single-ply version the radius minimum is 4 ft. 6 in. and a radius product is not required above 150 ft.; on the built-up or modified version a radius product is not required above 200 ft. For radius work under 48 ft., the anchor bar, cover and cleat come in 4-ft. lengths; at 48 ft. or greater they come in 12-ft. lengths. On the built-up or modified version the flange is welded when the radius is under 48 ft. Radius anchor bar and cover sections are notched, so they are handled with care to avoid denting or segmenting the outside face of the cover.
Installation sequence
The single-ply version installs in seven numbered steps:
- Roof Membrane. The membrane is positioned over the roof edge and down the outside face of the wall, covering the treated wood nailers completely, with 1/2 in. of excess membrane allowed.
- Miter & Scupper Anchor Bar (Preparation). Miters and scuppers are laid on the deck with the outside face down and the aluminum anchor bar clean of dirt and dust. A heavy 3/8-in. bead of non-curing sealant goes at the right-angle intersection of the deck flange and the back of the anchor bar, along the full length of each miter anchor bar. The cleat must be hooked into the miter bar before installing.
- Anchor Bar Splice Plates. Non-curing sealant is applied to each plate, placed into the grooves along the spacer, with a 3/8-in. bead on both sides of the spacer and on the deck flange.
- Miter Bar & Miter Cleat Installation. The miter cleat pieces hook to the miter bar with their ends flush. The roofing membrane is folded at the corners, and the miter assembly goes in with one anchor bar splice plate under each end of the miter bar. The miter bar takes 2-in. hex head stainless-steel fasteners and the miter cleat takes 1 1/4-in. hex head corrosion-resistant fasteners. Spillouts and scuppers are then installed with sealant, fasteners and anchor bar splice plates.
- Anchor Bar & Cleat Installation. The cleat hooks to the anchor bar, and 12-ft. bar and cleat sections are set over the sealed splice plate. The bar is fastened 12 in. on center and the cleat 24 in. on center through the slotted holes. Sections are field cut as needed.
- Fascia Miter Covers. Miter covers go on first, with one splice plate under each end of the two-piece cover. The cover with the 90-degree tab engages the bottom of the anchor bar and rotates up and over the miter until engaged along its full length.
- Fascia Covers. The 12-ft. covers are installed with a 3/8-in. gap between sections and one splice plate under the far end of each. The lower edge hooks onto the anchor cleat and the cover rotates up and over the anchor bar. A fine-tooth hacksaw is used for field cuts.
Fasteners are not over-driven, since stripping can occur at high driver torque. The recommended tool is a 600 to 800 rpm electric drill with a depth-sensing nosepiece, and an impact-type tool is not used. Installers wear protective eyewear.
The built-up or modified version has its own numbered steps. Step 1 is Roof Membrane, step 2 is Roof Edge, step 3 is Miter & Scupper Anchor Bar (Preparation), step 4 is Anchor Bar Splice Plates and step 5 is Miter Bar & Miter Cleat Installation. In step 2, a flashing strip extends a minimum of 8 in. onto the roof membrane and down the outside face of the wall, 1/2 in. beyond the wood nailer, with laps of at least 3 in. On modified bitumen roofs, some membrane manufacturers call for a sacrificial flashing strip. On built-up roofs, a bitumen envelope is installed over the ends of the base or BUR plies, and the flashing strip is mopped in with Type III or IV asphalt. In step 3 the miter and scupper anchor bar takes either a 3-in.-wide, 1/4-in.-thick band of mastic or a heavy 3/8-in. bead of non-curing sealant, depending on the roofing manufacturer's recommendations.
