Overview

Termination Bar Fascia is a roof termination system from Metal-Era for the edge of a roof. A formed aluminum bar with pre-punched, slotted fastener holes terminates the roofing membrane, and a formed snap-on cover closes the face of the edge. The bar and the cover are both supplied in 12'-0" lengths. The design removes the stripping-in and heat welding that many other roof edge designs call for, and the cover is made with prenotched lap joints.

The system is used at the edge of both low-slope and steep-slope roofs. It belongs to the family of perimeter metal components that finish flat and low-slope roof assemblies, where the membrane runs over the roof edge and down the outside face of the wall.

Two versions share the same bar-and-cover construction: a one-slot version for shorter face heights and a two-slot version for taller ones. Both are made with a formed .080-inch bar, 9/32" x 3/8" slotted fastening holes and a 1" lap notch on the cover.

One-slot and two-slot versions

The versions differ in face height and in how the bar is fastened to the wall.

  • One-slot version: face height from 3" minimum to 5" maximum. A single row of 9/32" x 3/8" slotted fastening holes runs along the bar at 12" on center, with the hole location a minimum of 7/8" from the roofing membrane.
  • Two-slot version: face height over 5" up to 8 1/2" maximum. A top row of slotted holes is spaced at 12" on center and a bottom row at 24" on center, each row with the hole location a minimum of 7/8" from the edge of the bar.

Each version is ordered in lineal feet of 12'-0" (3.65 m) lengths, together with outside and inside miters at the angles required. The cover is provided with a 1" lap notch, so each cover section laps 1" onto the next.

Bar, cover and materials

The bar is formed from .080" aluminum and is the fixed part of the system. It is fastened through its pre-punched, slotted holes, which allow for thermal movement of the materials and set the correct fastener placement and spacing. The slots are 9/32" x 3/8".

The cover snaps onto the bar. Covers are manufactured in two materials:

  • 24-gauge (.65 mm) galvanized steel
  • .040" (1.01 mm) aluminum

When a roof is re-covered, the anchor bar can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled at any time without compromising its strength and appearance. Because the system is non-penetrating at the cover, watertight integrity does not depend on flashing procedures, adhesives or lap sealants.

Colors and finish warranties

Covers are available in a range of standard colors and finishes. The finish warranties are set by the finish type:

  • Coil-coated standard colors: 30-year Kynar 500 finish warranty included.
  • Custom post-coated Kynar 500 colors: 10-year Kynar 500 finish warranty included, with a 20-year Kynar 500 finish warranty available on request.
  • Anodized finishes: 5-year warranty. Coil anodized finishing carries no warranty. Post-coat Class 1 batch anodized finishing carries a 5-year warranty, with an option to increase it to 10 years for an upcharge.

The color and finish are written on the print approval for each order, with an option for other finishes.

Miters and custom fabrication

Miters are factory fabricated, so corners do not have to be formed in the field. Outside and inside miters are ordered by quantity on the print approval for each version.

Fascia corner covers are made in two pieces. One piece carries a 90-degree tab that hooks over the top edge of the bar, and the other piece has no tab. Radius and specially fabricated products are also offered.

Installation sequence

The one-slot and two-slot versions are installed in the same six steps, which differ only in how the bar is fastened.

  1. Roofing Membrane: position the membrane over the roof edge and down the outside face of the wall, covering the treated wood nailer(s) completely, and allow 1/2" (13 mm) of excess membrane. The outside edge of the treated wood nailer(s), minimum 2 x 4, is aligned flush with or extends slightly past the outermost edge of the wall.
  2. Formed Bar Miter Installation: fold the roofing membrane at the corners and install the miters with appropriate fasteners.
  3. Formed Bar Installation: install the 12'-0" (3.65 m) sections of formed bar from right to left, as seen from the roof top, and space the formed bar joints 3/8" (10 mm). On the one-slot version the bar is fastened 12" (305 mm) on center through the slots. On the two-slot version the bar is fastened 12" (305 mm) on center through the top slots and 24" (610 mm) on center through the bottom slots. Sections are field cut as necessary.
  4. Fascia Miter Covers: install the 2-piece fascia corner covers first. Hook the top edge of the corner cover that has the 90-degree tab and rotate it down, then press the bottom edge into the bar until it snaps into place. The corner cover without the tab follows.
  5. Fascia Covers: install the 12'-0" (3.65 m) covers by hooking the top edge of the cover onto the top of the bar and rotating it down. Press the bottom edge into the bar until it snaps into place. Each section laps 1" (25 mm) onto the next.
  6. Caulk: apply caulk, supplied by others, along the entire length of the fascia between the wall and the fascia.

The protective plastic film is removed before each fascia section is installed. The fasteners are supplied by others.

Warranty

For Termination Bar Fascia, a 5-Year Workmanship Warranty is available on all Metal-Era products. On Termination Bar Fascia, the warranty covers replacement or repair of products that are defective in material or workmanship. The finish warranties listed above apply to the color and finish and are separate from it.
